HSV?

Hi, I'm a 28 year old male. 3 days after having unprotected sex with a women, I came down with some flu like symptoms; fatigue, slight fever, chills that lasted 5 days. About a week or two after that my genital area started tingling and I was experiencing left sided perineum pain, followed by maybe 5-10 small, red, itchy bumps spread around my thighs and buttocks, nothing on my genitals. This started a year ago and has been recurring maybe once every month or two. Recently I've developed rashes on my thighs, one the size of a softball and a few quarter sized that are light brown in color and flakey. I had an IGG type specific test done for HSV1+2 at 6 months and again at 9 months, both negative, also tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia which were negative. I feel run down all the time with frequent urination and pain in my armpits and legs. My doctor thinks it's all in my head, I was perfectly healthy before this encounter. I've read the HSV tests are fairly accurate but I don't know what else this could be. Any ideas? This has been going on for a year now and I still have no answers. Thank you.

Ok. It was just strange that this all started a few days after I was with this women, and although it doesn't quite fit the classic herpes symptoms, I thought it was pretty similar and had to be what it is. Hopefully the dermatologist can help me out.

Herpes doesn't fade in and out.  Herpes does go through a cycle but it doesn't include fading in and out.  Nor does herpes stay around for a month.  A most it stays around for 10 days.  You should work with a dermatolgist at this point.

Thanks for the reply, I haven't seen a dermatologist yet. My doctor took a look at the bumps when they were fading away and said not to worry abouth them, but he didn't seem too concerned to begin with so it made me a little nervous of his opinion. They never crust or ooze or anything like that, It's almost like they're under the skin and seem to fade in and out for about a month, is it possible to culture a bump like this? With the two negative tests and the fact that the symptoms don't match up quite right I've been hoping this was something else, but I don't know what else it could be. I'm waiting for the symptoms to get bad again and i'm going to go to a dermatologist.

If you are getting a repeat of symptoms like this then I would highly recommend being seen within 24-48 hours for a lesion culture.  This way you can get some answers.  Have you seen a dermatolgist?
