Herpes 1

Hi

Was diagnosed with HSV1 three and a half years ago both orally and Genital.

1. If I am shedding virus orally with no Symptoms does that mean I would be shedding it in genital area too?

2. What are transmission rates for genital?

3. Would I be shedding it in genital area since havnt had an outbreak for
Almost 4 years?

4. Must I disclose both to a future a partner or since it is same virus I have in to locations can I just
Disclose i have it orally?

Thankyou

You can safely assume as I mentioned that you are not shedding orally.

In general, there is only a small correlation interestingly enough.

But your question is not relevant. If you feel symptoms genitally then you avoid vaginal sex. If you feel symptoms orally, then avoid kissing. That is all that is expected of you.

So if I am shedding oral that does not it would be shedding genially as it is in two different locations and does everyone shed

The odds are not with that. But it makes no difference.

No but I'm certain it was that I got it at same time

Did you have a swab from your oral region?

Well I'm not sure why you think you have it orally. You have been swabbed in the genital region so that is where it is (at least, but probably only).

If you disclose, then disclose you have the virus without naming location. If you prefer to name location, then name genital.

So I would only have to disclose that I have it orally since the chance of spreading to genital is rare

As 70+% of the population has HSV1 (which includes all the cute guys) odds are when you disclose you have HSV1 the cold sore virus, then the person has a pretty high chance of looking at you and saying "yes I get cold sores too".

It can happen to have it in both locations, but more common just the one.

With genital HSV1, then the following is known.

Shedding does not equal a transmission possibility. Most shedding does not result in enough of the virus being present and hence viable to cause infection.

Genital HSV1 shedding is measured (by daily swabs) as occurring 5-15 days a years on average. Not much really. In reality in probably occurs more, pops onto the skin for a few hours and is gone.

Transmission to a male without HSV1 is about 2% per year of sex.

Up to you on disclosure. Some people think it is plenty enough to simply disclose you carry the virus. This usually is met with 'me too' in which case there are no further issues to contemplate.
