Herpes Question

Ok everyone, so a few years ago I started seeing a girl who wanted me to get tested for STDs.

I literally had no sexual contact at all at that point. I, being ashamed at my virginity (which I know is silly now) said I had actually had sex, so I had the test in order to perpetuate the lie.

I went to the doctors, and lied to her too, and she gave me the swab-up-the-urethra test, and sent it off for analysis. A few weeks later, I get a phone call asking me to come up and discuss the results.

The doctor broke it to me that I had herpes. She didn't say if it was HSV1 or 2.

I do indeed have bumps on my penis, but after much research they resemble Forcyte's Spots, not any kind of herpes I've been able to find.

My girlfriend has since been tested multiple times (at her annual checkup) and so far has not contracted it or had any symptoms of infection.

I guess I've got a few questions:

1.) How accurate is the swab test in detecting herpes?
2.) How could I have gotten herpes without ever having been touched by anyone (other than myself)?
3.) How likely is it that she would not contract it after multiple years of sexual activity together?
4.) Am I just in denial?

I suppose the easiest way to find out is to get a blood test, but I do have cold sores on my mouth (albeit rarely) so I feel that may make the blood test come back as positive even though it might not be genital in nature (if that's indeed how it works).

I greatly appreciate your input. Thank you for any insight you can give me.

Sorry this is from a different account - I forgot my password and the 'Reset Password' function of this site seems a little screwy.

I thought I'd update you guys. I went and had type-specific IgG serologic testing done. HSV-1 came back negative, unequivocally. I, however, did show what seems to be a high level of HSV-2 antibodies - '4.64H' was  what was shown on the results panel. So I'm positive for that. :-/

I've already known about this, but I'm VERY confused. How in the world could this have happened?

odds are this was a false positive. would be interesting to know what testing for herpes they used on the swab if you can find out that info.

It was just the swab, no further testing was done. The doctor didn't bring it up and I didn't know what I should have asked about at the time.

I hadn't had any sexual experience - oral or otherwise.

did you also have blood testing done too or just the urethral swab?

had you ever received oral sex prior to your testing?
