Herpes encephalitis

I have genital herpes, and two children who are both virus free.  My husband was recently hospitalized with herpes encephalitis.

Did I give it to him?  Will this happen each time we have sex?  I am too embarassed to as the doctor, and I feel very guilty that I may have passed the virus to him, and it has affected his brain!

I can't find the answers to my questions on any site at all, please help!

I'm going to be very blunt and honest- herpes encephalitis is very serious. it really sounds like your husband didn't get the best care he could've gotten.  I recommend getting a 2nd opinion from a different neurologist where they can review all the testing he had done and review all the studies he had done and go over all your questions with the both of you.  try to get this done sooner rather than later.

best of luck at getting better answers!

yes, they did both.  I don't know what the results were... they're weren't discussed with us.

The hospital discharge papers say encephalitis.  The 7 attempts at a lumbar puncture were all unsuccessful.  It was only after we were asked if either one of us has herpes was it diagnosed as herpes encephalitis.

I am still very confused and scared, and I can't find out if I passed this on? What is the recurrance of this? ???

is it encephalitis or herpes meningitis?  Did his spinal tap come back as hsv1 or hsv2+?

No, this will not happen each time you have sex.
