Herpes test. past and present

about 2 yrs ago my wife and I went thru IVF. they took blood to test for infections. they tests came back negative but did say my wife had n infection but i didnt. we both took antibiotics and went along with testing again.
well recently I was giving a friend encouragement to get an HIV test, so i told him i'd go to the clinic with him and get tested as well. I got my results back in like three days. It said i tested positive for Herpes simplex 2. I am very curios abut this. The first test i took was negative so how can the second be positive? The IVF test goes to the dna level, so since herpes is a DNA disease why didnt the test find it then? Is it possible that the test could have missed herpes? or give a false negative/positive?

My wife shows no signs. I have had little a reoccurring bump on my lip.but it happened for a long time. so the IVF test should have picked herpes up, if the bump on my lip was herpes. I had other tests and they all came back negative.

I am soo confused

odds are that neither you nor your wife were tested for herpes with your ivf pretesting. You'd have to request your test results to know for sure if you were or were not. since herpes isn't an infection that interferes with ivf, they typically don't test for it.

DNA herpes blood testing isn't helpful for determining herpes status outside of controlled research studies.  It's doubtful that they did a herpes pcr blood test on you for this reason.

as to your current + hsv2 igg blood test, do you know the exact results? as was touched on by Life360, you could have a false positive now so posting the exact results helps us help you better with what step to take next :)

Hi, what were the numbers involved as anything 3.5 and below could be a false positive and this might be your case.
