Hoping for False Positive - Results from Herpeselect

Hello everyone,

Last year in July of 2010, both myself and at the time current partner got STD screens for ourselves. Tests were negative for all at the time, however I had one instance of unprotected sex with her before she felt some pain, got checked again, and realized that she was positive for herpes. She must have contracted herpes sometime recently, before the incubation period where she could be tested as positive through the antibodies.

I never experienced any symptoms after this one encounter, and discontinued any future sexual contact with this person. The nurse and PP basically told me it would be very obvious if I had contracted HSV(ie. the painful blisters), and pretty much thought I was in the clear and had not contracted anything. Flash forward to now, I do a full blood screen specifically requesting HSV test, and was told I tested postive.

My IGG results through Herpeselect/QUEST:

HSV 1 were negative, <1.0
HSV 2 positive with 1.87

I am hoping for the best and will be getting confirmatory testing, but given that I have had confirmed exposure to someone with the virus, is my result most likely a real positive? Or is this grey area between 1 and 3.5 applicable to everyone?

is the person you had sex with a week before you were tested someone who you can get to get tested for herpes to see what their status is?  the reason I ask is because you need to wait 3 months after the last time you had sex with anyone, not just the person you know had hsv2. assume nothing about any partners status unless they've had proper testing done.

If you mean sex with the individual who actually has herpes, 10 months.
