How accurate are my IGG test results, should i retest?

I am simply seeking your opinions. I have had a herpes IGG type specific blood test done 84 (12 weeks) days after my last sexual encounter. My Clinic called me and told me that the tests came out to be negative (both HSV-1 and HSV-2) and that 84 days was a sufficient amount of time to consider theses tests conclusive. Would you agree, or would u recommend re-testing at a later date? I do actually plan on testing at the end of this week on friday which would make that the 15th week, for peace of mind. Im so nervous about this because ive been having what i thought to be 2 outbreaks so far since the exposure. The girl i was with claims to have gotten a negative IGG test recently that is negative but i cannot shake the feeling that im infected.  How accurate are 84 day test results, how much cam change between then and now if it hasnt already done so (12 weeks and 15 weeks)?

Alright thanks alot fletwood ill leave u be. Im feeling pretty confident that im hsv free as my test at 12 weeks is negative for both 1 and 2. I also came across this "2) Almost all cases of genital herpes due to HSV-1 are acquired by receiving oral sex." Which is something dr HHH said to someone, and i didnt receive oral.

Thanks again fleetwood,
Take care.

But that is the point. Oral sex is so much more likely to pass HSV1 than protected vaginal sex. HSV2 would be the more likely possibility but the testing is much more accurate for HSV2.

Correct that genital HSV1 for some people never reappears after 6 months. You can pass HSV1 genitally but at rates that are 5 to 10 times less than for genital HSV2.

You may consider asking the partner whether she has any reason to believe she has HSV1 cold sores orally or genitally.

Ok, just to be clear i had what i thot where symptoms a week or so after thats why i went to the doc who was unsure and did the bacertial swab. Then i had the second outbreak but neither where ever particulary painful, and there was only 1 small cut the second time. Ive also come to understand that genital hsv 1 seems to stop recurring after 1-2 years as per dr HHH posts to someone else. He also stated that u cant rly pass hsv 1 genitally if i understand.

It is not as common in males. 1 in 1,000 chance per episode sort of odds.

As an adult, if infected with HSV1 on your genitals, you would get a bad breakout around the infection site. You would not get those sorts of symptoms months after possible infection. That was the clincher for me.

Nvm i realize what i wrote about the test in january has no relevance to the test i took in june due to the exposer i had in march lol. Hopefully it did not miss the hsv 1, i guess that all i can bank on at this point.

This is essentially a zero chance of being herpes, I do agree with that.

Just for the record, the 10% of people whose HSV1 infections do not show up on a test will mostly never show up in a commercial test. But for these people, they'd never know without a swab whether they have an oral infection from their youth.

Ok thanks for the advice i do appreciate it. I cant imagine it being hsv 1 however because i took an hsv igg test in January as well and the test was also negative for hsv 1, i think it is very unlikely it missed it twice .Am i correct in thinking that? I also havent received oral since october 1 2013 if that makes any difference.

Thanks.

I just cannot see this being herpes at all given the symptoms, timing and blood tests.

The only issue may be HSV1 where testing can miss as many as 1 in 10 infections. However most adults who become infected with HSV1 see symptoms within 2-10 days, and reasonably harsh symptoms too.

Even if you had a Westernblot test reveal positive for HSV1, you'd not know if this was an infection from your youth as it would most likely be.

I'd think the best you can do is swab anything that emerges in future and request a PCR for herpes be performed on the swab. This would just a sleep easy as I think the chances of this being herpes are essentially zero.

No i did not receive unprotected oral, and yes i still speak with her.  I am no longer sleeping with her but we speak sometimes.

Did you receive unprotected oral sex? Is it right to assume you are no longer in contact with this partner?

Well i first noticed some red swelling about a week after the encounter and if my memory serves me right i may have aggravated the area to become a sore. I went to a doc and she said she was unsure and preformed a swab but unfortunately did not test for herpes, she tested for bacteria for some reason she that was useless. Then about 2 months later i got a minor red swelling the seemed to proceed to a little cut and to be honest i did examine it quite abit but not to the point of tearing the skin...i went to a doctor and she said it wasnt herpes but did not see it when the skin was torn. I went to see her in the afternoon and the skin was torn by bed time. It was also in the same location as the first sore so that had me concerned. However wouldnt a negative hsv test put to rest all these suspicions?

The 16 weeks is recommended for people with HSV1 already. Of the 1% or less of people who serconvert after 12 weeks, the majority already have HSV1.

Would she lie? Most people are mature and don't lie. Maybe they wouldn't tell you anything before lying.

It is highly likely that the result will now stay the same.

The concern is of course what are the outbreaks, could you describe these in a little detail?

Also i forgot one thing, whats ur opinion on the change of result from week 12 to 16? Is it highly likely to change or stay the same.

Thanks again

Ur the man fleetwood i was hoping to hear from u. So in ur opinion the test is conclusive even tho it hasnt been 16 weeks. And i also do not know forsure if she was negative she simply claims to be. If i did infact have an outbreak 1 week later would my body have developed antibodies by week 12??

Thanks again man ur truly amazing.

The test is conclusive on its own, you do not have HSV. Given that the partner is also negative, that means the test result is even longer since any potential exposure to the virus.

Thus you should look to other causes first.
