How accurate is my test result

Hi,

I had a protected sex on Dec7th with a Sauna lady (To be frank i just penetrated thrice in her vagina and i stopped it)later she gave me Blow job and hand job.

From 13th day after this i had a totally dry mouth and yellowish urine which burnt when i was passing urine. I some how searched the forums and got panicking about HIV. But i took all tests and all came back negative.

after nearly more than 2 months, i had a bad pharyngitis and it is still present. I went to the Doctor and told him i m freaking about the sex which i had, he examined me physically and no you are fine. I insisted him to go for complete STD checkup and ended up diagnosing in Herpes type -2.
Herpes Igg was above 1.5

I still haven't got any symptoms or any sores near my genital. I m not sure what i need to do from here. He prescribed me with Valacyclovir(500 mg) on daily basis.

Do i take the test accuracy as 100%  and i m a host for herpes?
Do i need to take the tabled every day even when i m not having cold sores?

Please help me here.. Thanks in advance

I don't agree, continual testing at 1.4 is still in need of confirmation with Westernblot.

Thanks man..... Enough is enough and learned a lot. Going to be extremely careful.

And infact, i didn't mentioned earlier post. I took another herpes type I and II igg test at 15 weeks (because of anxiety) and that came back as 1.69 (but from a different lab this time). So i was very much believing i got the virus.
But luckily, i feel all my prayers are answered.

You guys are doing an excellent job in this forum. thanks a lot.

Congrats man!!! I'm actually a little surprised by the result. HerpeSelect may in fact have issues with accuracy as some have claimed.

In either case, congrats!! Time to move on and enjoy life. Best safe my friend.

Thanks every one guys for the support..  on 16 weeks and 3 days past the posssible exposure.. WB came back as negative.

In short, Dec7th - Posssible exposure.

13th week - Herpes Select type specific test HSV -1 <0.90 (negative) HSV-2 1.40 (postive)

16 weeks and 3 days, Took the WB test through Quest labs.

2 weeks later, DR called me --- and its happy Dance... WB came back as negative :) :)

I wanted to thank individually to all who provided support here. you are providing a lot of support.

Fleetwood,  Life360, TiminBoston and others too.. your knowledge and the way you guide people are so good. Really a thank you to all you  guys.

I m going to see my Dr tell him the story, make him believe that a "Western Blot" test is available for Herpes too and not just for HIV. So atleast in future he will take a confirmation before telling you are an HSV-2 Infected person.
I dont know how many people actually people without Herpes are taking valtrex and other tablets when they are actually not infected.

Hi,

Grace, Fleetwoood please help me out with this question.

I have given my WB and waiting for the result.

I started getting small blood drops along with my stools. Does it confirms of herpes? and i m having a bit of constipation as well. still no rashes or sores in genitals.

Are these are the herpes sores possibly a rash on the anus causing this?

Per Fleetwood, the advice to take the WesternBlot is your best bet simply because it's the "Gold Standard" as it applies to herpes testing. Although more costly and a little bit more of an issue to obtain, a positive results via WB means with certainty you are positive for the virus.

Fleetwood is giving you sound and accurate advice. My only argument is the use for the Western Blot knowing your situation at this point. If you want to eliminate any doubt, then you are taking the best test.

When you do draw blood, please let us know how many weeks have passed from possible encounter. Remember, the WB will only way positive or negative and will not provide a numerical value. If it's positive, you must move on and take the necessary medication as advised from your doctor. Please don't question those results. I wish you luck!

Fleetwood,

I m going to take a WB, not the regular igg test. I will hope for the best.
If you get a chance, just tell me what is the percentage that i m looking at to be negative from here.

thanks fleet.

Guys, thank you for taking time in commenting on the post.

Bigtime and feeltwood, i m totally confused from what i need to here :(
i have seen lot of post in here medhelp, who doesn't have HSV-1 and they were diagnosed as 1.5 or even 2 also multiple times and finally got a Negative Confirmation  with WB. i am having a small hope on it.

Can i pay to terrywarren to guide me? not to offense you guys. just to be definite.

Please help me.. thank you again for all your great support.

There is a reason why >1.10 is considered positive on HerpeSelect IGG tests. Even with the possibility of false positives, somebody testing outside the equivocal range and repeatedly in the positive range indicates positive to the virus. Regardless if the titer's are low in your opinion.

There is a reason the test indicates a value for positive and a value for negative. Repeated testing for a positive value makes no sense and would only clarify what one quality test is already showing.

A WesternBlot is typically ordered if someone falls under the "equivocal" range multiple times, had a sketchy encounter, or needs confirmation on a test that is a very low value that has fluctuated between positive and equivocal...not someone testing multiple times positive.

If positive once you test again...even if in the 1.4 range I would deem you positive and would take the antivirals.

Good luck man.

I dont have access to western blot unless i call terry and join her as phone patient.

and did you mean back to back positive igg results are conclusive? or a WB?

The western blot is the preferred but if that one is not too expensive give it a shot. 2 positive back to back would be conclusive.

Not the igm the igg. if they dont know that the igm is not correct they dont know about herpes.

Got you... i just called the near by labs they said the bio kit is not available. They can again do the hepes select IGG and igm based test.

I m thinking of talkign to terry and get an appointment with quest. Do you think is that ok ?

Just touching would not force the virus into the nerve.

It would be if your value was 4 or above not at 1.4, thats really low and also mentioned that hsv2 oral is not common at all. The protected vaginal would count if your pubic mound area rubbed and grinded into hers if not then no. Im not sure where you can get the biokit

Life,

Weather or not i have herpes, i m really thank full to all you guys for the support.

now i m actually confused, as per Bigtimeworried55 12 weeks mark would be a definite. But you say the value falls in 1.4 which might be a false positive range. Also do remember i had a protected vaginal penetration for about couple of minutes. Does this also counts?

Anyways i will definitely go for a retest. Can you please guide me where can i find this biokit? Does labcorb does this?

Hi a 1.4 falls into false positive range for sure and would need another test to confirm. You can take the biokit which is a simple finger prick and  is hsv2 specific. Dont take the meds till you retest and by the way getting hsv2 gential from oral sex is really a long shot. Almost all people with hsv oral is hsv1 not 2 so do reconsider your status.

I saw a lot of false positives and got negative after they test with the western blot. So i was hoping this might be the case too.
But as per your comments 12 weeks is conclusive.

I m just 27 years of age, and could not even think that i have this dreadful disease.
I m confused a lot.

Anyways i will try to do another test and will see how this goes.

Thanks to you all
