Hsv2
Hsv 2 concern. Abt 1 month Before my current bf i was being a littke reckless sexually, well not in a crazy way but i had unprotected sex. Almost a year ago i went to the doctor because i saw a snall sore...the doctor swabbed it and said it was just friction from shaving. I got with my now boyfriend in October of 2017 and we would use protection off and on. In april of 2018 i went to do a pap smear and routine std testing, everything came back negative except for trich. I took antibiotics and retested many times up until june 2018 and all came back negative which is confusing because my bf is my same partner and we had unprotected sex again so idk how when i retested i came negative. Fast forwRd on one event of restesting 2wks ago, i did a home std full panel. I tested positive for hsv 2. Shocked... i never had any signs or symptoms and i did not kno that hsv testing was only provided when asked. My index value is 2.85 im not too sure what that means but i am worried. and only these past 2wks have i experienced tingling and frequent urination but no blisters. My last hsv test was in 2013 and it was negative so it had to be passed to me in these last 5yrs but idk when and from whom. What should i do? Why am i just now tingling? And should i retest? How can i find out when i got it? My bf gave me unprotected oral last week and if he has it wouldnt he have symptoms by now?
Even though i tested positive how can i tell if the hsv2 i have is orally or genitally?

It’s generally genitals, but you could possibly have it orally although rare. Only way to know for sure if when you have an actual outbreak, go immediately to the doctor and have it swabbed so they can tell which type., whether it’s an oral cold sore or a Genital sore.
You can have it for years and never have any symptoms. There’s no way of knowing when and whom you got this from, you just know the time frame. I would have your bf get tested too. False positives can happen in the range of 1.1-3.5. They recommend confirmatory testing if you test in that range. I tested a 1.3 and got a confirmation test. I did the western blot. It’s the gold standard for HSV testing. You can read about it online and how to get the test if you opt to do that test Unfortunately I was positive. Never had any symptoms and still don’t. Or you can just go to your doctor and get another IGG test. The western blot is recommended though. Check out the West over Clinic website. How can i find out the timeframe?
You need to find out if hsv testing was done when you had your std testing done with your Pap smear. This isn’t always included in std testing. Many places won’t do it unless you request it. If you were tested for it then and it came back negative, then all you know is acquired it between that time and the test you just did. Of course if you were tested back then and was negative, there’s still a chance you could’ve had it during the test, but just didn’t have enough time to build up the antibodies to show positive. Some people take up to 4 months to produce a positive blood test. Do you know if hsv testing was included when you had std testing done with your pap?
Unfortunately it wasnt. So my last hav test was in 2013 and it was negative. Until i tested myself at home 2wks ago and it came back positive hsv2 igg 2.85.
