My son has geographical tongue. I've been told it is rare, and runs in the genetic compound of individuals. He is adopted internationally, and one of our friends that adopted their son from the same part of the world also (coincidentally) has it. My son also has HSV1. I have no idea how he contracted it...maybe because he lived in an orphanage or maybe from birth. I do not believe there is any relation between the two conditions. Other than...they both seem to rear their ugly face when his immunity is low. I always know when he is going to get sick because of a patch showing on his tongue or he gets a herpes outbreak on his face. We practice preventative medicine, and we have found that Calcium and vitamin B supplements help both conditions. As well as low sugar diets. Good luck
WELL I'M SHOCKED THAT THIS WAS POSTED IN A HERPES FORUM BUT SINCE I HAVE BOTH I WANTED TO GIVE MY ADVICE BUT IF U KNOW WHAT GEOGRAPHIC TONGUE IS AND THE FACT THAT IT IS RARE U WILL UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE WILL MISTAKE IT FOR HERPES DUE TO LACK OF KNOWLEDGE
I'm really not trying to be rude or disrespectful toward either one of you that are asking about geographic tongue, but I'm curious what made you think it would have anything to do with herpes?
NOPE I HAVE IT AND I WAS SHOCKED THAT'S WHY IM HERE NOW TRYING TO FIND OUT MORE FROM OTHERS WHO HAVE IT
geographic tongue is not herpes and it's also not contagious.

I have never heard of geographic tongue being related to herpes. I just looked it up and it seems like it is associated with several different genes, and often runs in families.
Best,
Em
