HI Howard,
Thanks a lot! I feel a lot better...thank you!
Can a woman have genital heroes for decades and not know it.
"Am I just imagining things?" Yes.
"...or do babies get affected and their parents have no idea how?" No, that doesn't seem to happen. To my knowledge, there are no cases of babies affected by herpes except those who obviously are infected at delivery, not before.
"So, if a woman is viral shedding from her cervix, then that can be transmitted via IUD into her womb / uterus?" To my knowledge this doesn't happen. If it does, it is extremely rare. Millions of wome have both genital herpes and IUDs, and they don't seem to have any different or worse problems with herpes than anyone else.
This is a community forum with mostly nonprofessional volunteers. Your own Ob probably is more knowledgeable about all this than we are on this website. As I've said, I think you are overreacting to a non-issue. But if you remain concerned, talk with your doctor about it.
So, if a woman is viral shedding from her cervix, then that can be transmitted via IUD into her womb / uterus?
No, I had my IUD fitted yesterday, but the dr did not say anything about ob around my cervix. I do not know.
But I am very worried, because if the IUD is opening a door for the HSV2 viurs to enter the womb and uterurs, then it will cause damage in the future, right?
Am I just imagining things or do babies get affected and their parents have no idea how?
I would really appreciate your answer...
Initial GH in women often involves the cervix, which is also a common site of asymptomatic viral shedding.
Have u ever have herpes in the cervix? An obgyn is able to see the cervix and also do a culture like a silver smear to detect outbreak in the cervix. There is also ultrasound to see the womb. I haven't read anything about hsv2, sores or lesion in the womb but these are the question for ur obgyn. Inaddition, if u r really worry you should find a herpes specialist in your area that Mayer able to answer these questions.
Are you pregnant?
God bless, S
What if there is no symptoms around the cervix, will the HSV2 virus still be transmitted into the uterus?
Hi Howard,
Thank you! I am wondering if you are a doctor or if you have worked in this field.
I recently got an IUD fitted, and that is why I am really concerned. I know that sex toys for example can transmit HSV2 virus, and since IUD is an object that is place in the cervix, and I thought the same may apply to the IUD as well.
I am seriously freaking out, because if this is true, then I need to remove the IUD immediately. I do not want my future babies to be infected in anyway...
Thank you!
Transmission of HSV to babies occurs almost entirely during delivery. Rarely the virus can ascend into the uterus early in pregnancy, usually resulting in miscarriage. However, to my knowledge there is no evidence that IUD increases the risk. While your logic sounds good -- that HSV might be carried into the uterus if an IUD is inserted when the infection is active at the cervix -- I'm unaware of any reports that this has ever actually happened. I see no reason to be worried about it.
