Irritation around vulva, papillomatosis, and herpes fear

I had protected (condom) vaginal intercourse with a new partner a week ago and again two nights ago.  The partner has not been tested for HSV but says he has never had any reason to believe he would be a carrier or at risk.  The intercourse two nights ago was very rough and not enough lube was used.  I was mildly sore and itchy yesterday, which I attributed to the rough sex and also from a yeast infection which I had treated a few days ago.  Thinking that perhaps the yeast infection hadn't cleared up, I vaginally administered some Monistat 3-day cream which I've used before with no problem (aside from a little burning on occasion). This time, however, it caused my vagina to itch like crazy.

I woke up this morning with itching and burning around the vulva.  Throughout the day the itching somewhat abated but the area around my vulva and labia minora still feels raw, mildly painful, and with a slight burning sensation. I don't see any lesions or sores, but it looks generally red and irritated.  I also have the skin condition "vulvar papillomatosis" (little finger-like protrusions around the vulva), and the "fingers" look very irritated and are fanned out.  No discharge, except for the Monistat from last night. No smell.

Question: Is the burning around the vulva I describe a potential symptom of herpes? I would have chalked it up to a yeast infection but the fact that the Monistat set off the burning and itching--which hasn't gone away--indicates that it's not just a yeast infection.

Thanks for any insight.

you need to be seen and get a proper work up done.

this doesn't sound like herpes going on.

Thank you, Grace -- I am seeing a doctor tomorrow, but the anxiety is paralyzing me.  I've never experienced this type of persistent itching and burning that isn't improved by application of Vagisil/Monistat/yogurt.

I'd stop putting anything on your genital area. yogurt in the genital area doesn't help with yeast infections either.

itching and burning is more often bv than it is yeast too. unless you have very obvious chunky white cottage cheese discharge, always best to be properly tested for vaginitis instead of self treating with otc treatments. women only accurately self diagnosis yeast 1 out of every 3 times so it's usually not worth self treating :(

I have very similar symptoms like yours. Doctors were not able to give me safisfacfory answers or treatment. What was your diagnosis?

since this is an old post, probably best to send a pm to the poster in case they still log on to medhelp :)
