I went to the doctor to get tested. I'm waiting on my results now. They should probably be available in a few days. I just keep praying the test comes back negative.
You probably won't want to do a swab until you have some kind of physical symptom - a bump or lesion, or the paper cut, or even a rash. The PCR DNA swab is very sensitive and will pick up the virus if it's present, even if it's not a full-blown outbreak. But swabbing when you don't have any symptoms seems to risk wasting time and money.
However, you can have an IgG anytime - and yes, HerpeSelect is one of the IgG brand names.
Hello darling - please take a deep breath. I know you're scared, but I'll try to answer some of your questions. First, doctors don't always know everything about every condition - they have so many to keep track of. Second, you have the right to control your health care decisions, so INSIST on an IgG type-specific blood test for HSV (use these exact words). If they refuse, fire them and get another doctor who will listen to you. They are wrong about the antibodies: if your IgG index result is above a certain threshold, you definitely have HSV. The antibodies only stick around in the presence of the virus. No virus, no antibodies.
Herpes can present in a number of ways, including papercut-like symptoms. I often have these myself. The very next time you have one, ask your doctor to swab the area for a PCR DNA swab. This is the most sensitive and accurate of the HSV tests. A positive result is absolute.
75% of Americans have either HSV-1 or HSV-2. Yes, I do recommend getting tested, because knowledge is power. In addition, the two types behave differently, and knowing your type becomes important, especially when dating.
Finally, a lot of conditions mimic herpes, and herpes looks and feels like a lot of things. There's no reason to worry until there's something to worry about. Get tested immediately and see the result first. Hugs to you, sweetheart.
The best thing to do is test yourself. Just because herpes may have been present in your partners does not mean it has transmitted. The blood test above will tell you what you need to know about your status.
You are over reacting to what you are reading. For a start, cuts are rare and even rarer to only ever to have had cuts as a symptom with no lesions. The odds are just too small here to be feasible.
The test will put your mind at ease.
I also remember having sex a few times and the cut reopened im guessing from rubbing or friction. I'm just now learning that herpes can still be transmitted when no blisters are present. So I think that knowing the cut reopened during sex could have been the perfect opportunity for herpes to transmit scares me. But getting tested scares me too.
Do you think it would be a good idea to ask the guy i was with while on break from my boyfriend if he has been tested for herpes?
My first partner was a virgin, but my next boyfriend was not. He told me he had sex with 7 women before me. I'm not sure if he was lying about the number or not, but he got tested and was clean, so I thought everything would be ok. Why don't doctors include herpes in these tests, especially if they say it can still be transmitted with no symptoms. It's like they're trying to set us up for failure here. But, I also had a fling when my boyfriend and I were on a break with someone and I have no idea how many women he had been with.
I guess im feeling nervous because I didn't have this itching and cuts until I had a new partner and when I went to the doctor the first time about it, the doctor didn't even look. They just listened to my symptoms and said it sound like a yeast infection. After reading people's symptoms online it has terrified me and made me feel like I had herpes because of the tingling and cuts. This is the 3rd or 4th time im having this tingling in the same spots since 2011. Is there a way the doctor could swab the area to see if it's some sort of yeast or bacteria or even to see if it's herpes? Or does it have to be a visible cut to have a heroes swab?
There isn't any reason to suspect herpes is present here. The symptoms are not really aligned. Testing is not recommended in these circumstances.
Being very young and your first partner was a virgin perhaps?
However it is your choice to have a test (or not). You can insist with your doctor that they order a Herpeselect antibody test type specific for HSV1 and HSV2.
Don't be dissuaded by 'only tests for antibodies' as if you are firmly positive for antibodies then you have the virus no question.
I might also need to add that while in college, the guy who became my boyfriend and I took a break and I had unprotected sex with a guy I went to college with. He was also clean, but I'm not sure if he had testing for herpes.
I also wanted to add that the itching or tingling im having now does not have the cut this time. I've been having this feeling for about 3 days now.
