Is this herpes? Please help me. I'm scared

I'm 22 years old. I'm so scared that this may be herpes. I just had an anxiety attack today. I'm having this itching/tingling feeling above my clitoris, right in the crease where the hair is. It's the same feeling you get of your nose itches and you want to scratch it. I first had this feeling in April 2010 or 2011 ( I can't remember). It was horrible it itched so bad. I was in high school and Unfortunalety I cheated on my then boufriend (now ex). A month after that sexual encounter the itching started. I was on my period when it started and the itching lasted on and off for a few hours. I rubbed the are a lot and I got this cut right in the crease. Because I was rubbing that are 1 or 2 more cuts were there too. My parents took me to the doctor and I told the doctor about the itching and he said it sound like a yeast infection. At the time my parents were in the exam room with me and I did not tell the doctor that I was sexually active. The doctor gave me antibiotic for a yeast infection and told me the hydrocortisone would help with the itching. I took the meds and put hydrocortisone on the are for about 2 or 3 days and it went away. In 2012, I had the itching again. At that time the guy I cheated with had become my boyfriend, and I was in college. It was my first time shaving "down stairs" and I started my period. It was red and itchy and I got that cut in the crease above my clit again. I went to the on campus doctor and she examed me. She tested me for stds and they came back clear. She asked if I wore scented pads. I told her yes and she said to stop and to stay away from the Always brand of pads completely. I did and put some hydrocortisone on and by the end of the week everything was ok. Well now that I'm older, im just finding out that herpes testing is NOT included when the doctor tells you that you're clear of all stds. I'm SO scared. It's 2016 now and I'm starting to have this itchy/tingling feeling again and it's right in the crease AGAIN. I've been doing reading online and people say this itchy feeling is a sign of herpes. Especially if it's in the same spots. I went to the doctor about 6 months ago and asked for a herpes test and my doctor told me that they don't usually do a herpes test, just because. They do a culture of there is a blister present, but they don't rely on blood test because blood test only show antibodies. From my understanding antibodies are created when our body fights off something, so having antibodies doesn't necessarily mean you have it. She gave me an example of chickenpox, I've never had chickenpox because I was vaccinated as a child, but my body carries antibodies for chickenpox because vaccines always have a small amount of what they are trying to protect you from so that your body knows how to fight it off.

So, I've seen some people say that their herpes symptoms were cuts and not blisters like they taught us in school. Imy doctor also said that about 80% of people have herpes antibodies. Is testing necessary? Is it worth it, seeing as though most people don't know they have it anyway? What should I do? I need help.

I went to the doctor to get tested. I'm waiting on my results now. They should probably be available in a few days. I just keep praying the test comes back negative.

You probably won't want to do a swab until you have some kind of physical symptom - a bump or lesion, or the paper cut, or even a rash. The PCR DNA swab is very sensitive and will pick up the virus if it's present, even if it's not a full-blown outbreak. But swabbing when you don't have any symptoms seems to risk wasting time and money.

However, you can have an IgG anytime - and yes, HerpeSelect is one of the IgG brand names.

Hello darling - please take a deep breath. I know you're scared, but I'll try to answer some of your questions. First, doctors don't always know everything about every condition - they have so many to keep track of. Second, you have the right to control your health care decisions, so INSIST on an IgG type-specific blood test for HSV (use these exact words). If they refuse, fire them and get another doctor who will listen to you. They are wrong about the antibodies: if your IgG index result is above a certain threshold, you definitely have HSV. The antibodies only stick around in the presence of the virus. No virus, no antibodies.

Herpes can present in a number of ways, including papercut-like symptoms. I often have these myself. The very next time you have one, ask your doctor to swab the area for a PCR DNA swab. This is the most sensitive and accurate of the HSV tests. A positive result is absolute.

75% of Americans have either HSV-1 or HSV-2. Yes, I do recommend getting tested, because knowledge is power. In addition, the two types behave differently, and knowing your type becomes important, especially when dating.

Finally, a lot of conditions mimic herpes, and herpes looks and feels like a lot of things. There's no reason to worry until there's something to worry about. Get tested immediately and see the result first. Hugs to you, sweetheart.

The only issue is, I haven't had the cut on about a year, maybe a year and a half. Should I wait to see if it happens again to get tested?

The best thing to do is test yourself. Just because herpes may have been present in your partners does not mean it has transmitted. The blood test above will tell you what you need to know about your status.

You are over reacting to what you are reading. For a start, cuts are rare and even rarer to only ever to have had cuts as a symptom with no lesions. The odds are just too small here to be feasible.

The test will put your mind at ease.

Thank you so much for your help. Is the herpeselect the same test as the IgG?

I also remember having sex a few times and the cut reopened im guessing from rubbing or friction. I'm just now learning that herpes can still be transmitted when no blisters are present. So I think that knowing the cut reopened during sex could have been the perfect opportunity for herpes to transmit scares me. But getting tested scares me too.

Do you think it would be a good idea to ask the guy i was with while on break from my boyfriend if he has been tested for herpes?

My first partner was a virgin, but my next boyfriend was not. He told me he had sex with 7 women before me. I'm not sure if he was lying about the number or not, but he got tested and was clean, so I thought everything would be ok. Why don't doctors include herpes in these tests, especially if they say it can still be transmitted with no symptoms. It's like they're trying to set us up for failure here. But, I also had a fling when my boyfriend and I were on a break with someone and I have no idea how many women he had been with.

I guess im feeling nervous because I didn't have this itching and cuts until I had a new partner and when I went to the doctor the first time about it, the doctor didn't even look. They just listened to my symptoms and said it sound like a yeast infection. After reading people's symptoms online it has terrified me and made me feel like I had herpes because of the tingling and cuts. This is the 3rd or 4th time im having this tingling in the same spots since 2011. Is there a way the doctor could swab the area to see if it's some sort of yeast or bacteria or even to see if it's herpes? Or does it have to be a visible cut to have a heroes swab?

There isn't any reason to suspect herpes is present here. The symptoms are not really aligned. Testing is not recommended in these circumstances.

Being very young and your first partner was a virgin perhaps?

However it is your choice to have a test (or not). You can insist with your doctor that they order a Herpeselect antibody test type specific for HSV1 and HSV2.

Don't be dissuaded by 'only tests for antibodies' as if you are firmly positive for antibodies then you have the virus no question.

I might also need to add that while in college, the guy who became my boyfriend and I took a break and I had unprotected sex with a guy I went to college with. He was also clean, but I'm not sure if he had testing for herpes.
