Possible hsv1 transmission from chapstick?

Hello,

I recently shared my chapstick with my mom (3 days ago) who gets cold sores, but did not have one at the time. I do not remember if I used the chapstick directly after her, or what the timing was between her using it and me using it. For the sake of worst case scenario, maybe let's say I used it right after her. 2 days later I woke up with a sore on the inside of my upper lip (just inside). It sort of looks like a small red line, almost like a split. I do not usually get sores in my mouth or anything, so it made me nervous that I could have caught hsv1 from sharing chapstick with her. Today, she had a cold sore, so she could have been shedding shedding the virus at the time we shared chapstick. I tested negative for hsv1 igg just weeks ago, so I definitely did not have the virus previously.

My question really is, is it possible in my scenario for the virus to have been transmitted? Also, is it possible for herpes to appear as a split/sore just inside your lip? Thanks for any insight in advance.

A cold would not up your chances also herpes first time sores would appear at point of contact which would be the outside of you lip.

Thank you for the feedback. Would me having a cold right now compromise the ability for my immune system to to fight the virus if exposed? Also, is the sore like thing inside my upper lip likely herpes? Is it possible for herpes to manifest just inside your lip, especially with the appearance of a split more than a circle? It is not painful.

Hi, the risk for contracting oral herpes from sharing things is mostly from young children whose immune systems are not yest strong but for adults really needs direct contact to be at risk esp when a lip sore is visible at the time. In theory its possible but in probability its not.
