Just tested positive for Herpes

My lab results just came. Tested positive for hsv 1 and 2 IGG (25.20). IGM is negative.

Can anyone please tell what does it mean for me and my life now? I feel lost. :(

Yes, hsv1 oral is no big thing. I just noticed that you have 90 posts all about HIV and other std, I would really suggest having some counceling about your std anxiety.

Ok thanks. Even if I still somehow manage to get my kids infected with hsv1....It still won't mean anything more than some cold sores on their lips right? I mean even in the worst case scenario I am not a life risk to them?

With great effort I had put hiv fear behind me. With 7 hiv negative tests in total, the last being at 83 days from exposure I finally got to move on. This HSV 1 igg positive has me thinking that whether my hiv tests were influenced by HSV interference?

1. just be care when kissing them when you have a lip cold sore or feel some lip tingling.
2. Testing negative 3 months post exposure for hsv2 is conclusive.

Two questions if you would be kind enough to take them:

1. If we conclude that I am hsv1 igg pos then what's the likely prognosis? And how should I behave around my kids?

2. Are you sure IGM positive for HSV2 doesn't mean anything? Please don't get me wrong I mean to say should any further test or retest be considered?

Regards

I though if I am igg posit I've in a combo then being igg negative in HSV2 makes me igg positive in HSV1 by default. That is why I didn't take an HSV 1 igg test.

Correct and suggest if I am wrong. Much appreciated.

Ok igm is useless. Glad to know that. Here is the matter in a nutshell:

Test 1, combo = igg positive

Test 2, HSV 2 Igg and IGM = igg negative. (IGM POS)

Last exposure = 3 months ago.

Symptoms = None

What do you make of it?

Thanks.

We dont use igM at all as is meaningless so dont bring this up again. What was the test result for specific hsv1 and hsv2?

And my last exposure was 3 months ago. Can igm antibodies show up so late after the exposure?

My report came and it is confusing like hell. See my hsv 1 and 2 combo test was negative for igm but positive for igg. Now my hsv2 standalone test is negative for igg and positive for igm with a value of 2.02.

What to make of this??? How can igm be negative in a combo test but turnout to be positive in a specific test??

Does it mean that I am positive for hsv1 igg and positive for hsv2 igm??? Even if it is so then why didn't the positive igm result show in my combo test??

Any explanation will be most welcome.

Went to the doc. He says nothing to worry because "it's no big deal". He says no further testing is required. However I have given a sample for HSV 2 igg and IGM test. If it's negative then I have HSV 1 and if it's positive then I have hsv 2. It's that simple right? I mean can it be so that I have both hsv 1 and hsv 2??

Sorry for excessive posting. It's just that I am terrified right now. Have to go to my brother's wedding in an hour. Don't know how will I hold up myself there. :(

Ok ok I see your point. Please bear with me and take just 1 or 2 more questions please. 1. Herpes is usually transmitted only when there are open or obvious sores? I mean suppose I have perfectly healthy clean lips then my kiss is not risky for my kids? Like on cheeks?
2. Is chickenpox related to Hsv? I mean if I had chickenpox as a child then would my hsv test be necessarily positive?

SJ, listen to me. You need to take the test again but with a type specific to rule out hsv2. Hsv2 is the more difficult one in ways of having sex with your wife. Hsv1 oral is no big deal as millions of people have it and all you need to do is avoid kissing (rubbing romantic kissig) when you have an active lip cold sore also avoid oral sex when you have an active lip sore. Hsv1 is no big deal.

My positive value is very high 25.20 isn't it? But the report doesn't say if it's HSV 1 or 2. Is HSV 1 somewhat more preferable than HSV2? Is hsv2 bad as in life threatening? And please tell me how should I behave around my kids now. Kissing is off the table I guess for life! Can I hug them?

Very often when a person has hsv1 oral, which upward of 65% of the adult population has from childhood, it cross  reacts and shows a low positive for hsv2 which is almost always a false positive and i would bet this is the case with you.

I have a wife and 2 kids. Does it mean I can't kiss them ever?

It was a combination test. Why is it important to know the specivic type of hsv? Is one type dangerous than the other? Is either of them life threatening?
