LabCorp IgG: bad batch gives false positives, August 2008

Just wanting to pass this along.

I had an equivocal (1.03) lab test result from LabCorp run 8/5/08.  Test 163147.

I received a letter from my GYN today:

"Recently you had laboratory testing that was performed by Laboratory Corporation of America ('LabCorp'), a clinical testing laboratory, as ordered by your physician.  As part of LabCorp's ongoing quality assurance processes, we have identified a possible problem in the test result reported to your physician."

The letter requests I call for retesting, so I did.  They said that batch was giving false positives.  I'd already had a negative IgG test last week so I declined the retest.

If you were tested by IgG from LabCorp during the summer and had an equivocal or positive result without symptoms, I'd suggest contacting your doctor.  Good luck!

Thanks I was planning on doing so...I will request a Herpes Select. There is just so much confusion with some of these tests, I wish it was either positive or negative. But it depends on HSV 1, length of time from exposure, and making sure you get the right test. For me it had been 9 months since I was possibly exposed, one would think that would have been long enough to make enough antibodies!

If I recall, it was in 1 particular state but I"m not sure. I recommend contacting labcorp themselves if you have questions.

You also should repeat your blood test regardless to confirm a low positive.

how could they let this happen? trinity might have other distrubuters other than lab corp. who might be having this problem as well. also focus and trinity might interchange/buy some equipment contributing to this problem urgh

I also had a low positive HSV 2 Igg from LabCorp in June 2008. I have not retested. Is this "bad batch" contained to a certain lab or location?

More info:

I spoke with the physician at LabCorp who explained that clinicians were reporting a high incidence of false positives with Trinity products (the company that makes the IgG test LabCorp used).  LabCorp then began testing with Trinity and if false positive, they would test with a Focus IgG test (another test manufacturer) and the test might be negative.

Specific dates were between February 1 and September 15, 2008.
