Hi Grace,

I am from Hong Kong, and recently received a HSV Western Blot Test on Week 10 after suspected exposure , The result showed
HSV-1 – Positive
HSV-2 – Borderline

Here my experience details:

On 22/5/2018, I went to the massage shop to have a massage by the girl, at that time, she helps me to masturbate by using her hand, and i did masturbate for her (in her vagina) too with a condom on my middle finger, after I finish I pull out the condom and i forget whether i used my hand to touch my penis or not.

In the first of July, my penis start to have red mark and there are two red Acne stick together on my Glans,my foreskin start to have inflammation and generate lots of “White dirt”, I go to consult doctor and he said it is Candidiasis inflection and it is not herpes.

At the same day, I went to have a HSV Western Blot Test, after 2 days, the result showed HSV-1 Positive and HSV-2 Borderline, there is no further numbers in the report.

So, May I know what does “Borderline” means? Do i get HSV-2? I am so worry and desperate.

Since I have the Western Blot on Week 10, Is the “Borderline” result means the IgG of HSV-2 is growing ?Is 10 weeks after exposure enough to determine whether I have HSV-2? Is it mean I already inflected? Will the IgG decrease? Will uninflected people have borderline result? I am so sad and depressed, please help.Thank you so much. Sorry for so much questions:(

Since in my country, there are only two type of HSV test , Elisa and Western Blot, and I also dunno why Western Blot test can get result In 2-3days, but these are the only way I can found out whether I have HSV2 while no symptoms come out at currently Week 11, I also always talk to myself that exposure is not high risk, but I just can’t get out from my Week 10 result of Borderline if my Western Blot result, so I have retested Elisa on Week 11 and will do the last test on Week 12 for Western Blot, to confirm my status, it really affect my life, can’t sleep for 2 weeks currently. Sigh

That is not a  true Western Blot. It's probably an IgG based immunoblot test, which can be difficult for some practitioners to read and mistakes can be made. I understand your anxiety but I believe you are worrying needlessly.  Based on what you have described, I don't believe you were infected during your recent encounter.

If my penis ever touch her Lateral thigh(no specific sore found), since it’s mucous membrane to skin, is it high possibility being infected? I am so worry and panic now. Thanks a lot.

Touching your penis to an infected person's thigh is ZERO risk. You don't catch herpes this way. There is a reason herpes is categorized as an STD; you must have sex, i.e. a penis must enter a mouth, anus or vagaina for it to have any chance at transmitting to a new host.

The only place you can get the Western Blot is from the University of Washington, and there is NOT a 2 day turnaround time on the Western Blot. I'm very doubtful you had the Western Blot test performed. I would be highly suspect of the test you had done. Also, the symptoms you describe sound nothing like herpes. In addition, your encounter sounds like it was a low risk encounter and no reason for concern.

Is 10 weeks Western Blot HVS 2 result accurated ? I’m confused with my “Borderline” result. Will the Antibodies decrease so I can be negative ? Thank you so much

Thanks so much. My Dr. Ask me to retest on Week12 , is it possible the borderline result will turn into negative? Will the antibodies decrease ? Is borderline means I ever contact with a little amount of HSV 2 virus? I am so desperated.

Yes ,it could be negative but remember if positive and under 3.5 it mainly be a false positive because of cross reactivity due to hsv 1. it is normal situation it happens people get equivocal or low positive when they hsv 1.
But I test for Western Blot , will Western blot has this cross reactivity also? Thank you

You're situation doesn't describe you got herpes by recent exposure. It might be past exposure.I think you does not have hsv2.
Thanks
