Meds Not Working Anymore

I was diagnosed with herpes 17 years ago.  For many years, Valtrex or Acyclovir worked miracles and then one day - they just stopped.  No matter how much I took - the outbreaks kept coming back and wouldnt subside.  Since then, I have been trying natural remedies as best as I can.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Are there other medicines on the market to try that I may not have a resistance to?

I’m 8 years late commenting on this but, the same thing has happened to me. After 7 years on acyclovir with great success, the medication just stopped working 6 months ago and my life has been a living hell. I feel like the outbreaks are coming every 2-3 weeks and I’m not sure why. I’m a healthy 33 y/o female, I eat well, exercise, take vitamins and lysine daily. My stress is not any higher than normal. I’ve went through many stressful events and was outbreak free. My dr changed my 2x daily 400mg acyclovir to 1 500mg of valacyclovir a month ago and it hasn’t made a difference. The worst part of all this is that I haven’t told my husband (we married last year). We have children and I’m so scared this is going to end my marriage. I never had outbreaks on the meds and never knew how to bring it up and now I’m suicidal over it. I’m a horrible person and just don’t know what to do.

odds are that if antivirals are no longer working, then what is currently going on, isn't all herpes. the rates of herpes antiviral resistance are incredibly low so odds are this isn't the issue.

what sort of work up have you been through since this all started up?  Have you had any fairly recent herpes testing done to see if you have hsv1 or hsv2 genitally?
