NGU, HSV and anxiety after sex with escort

Let me start off by saying I hate myself for what I have done. but here goes. I had protected oral and vaginal sex with an escort on the 11th. 3 days later I began to experience a painful sensation in my urethra and the tip of my penis. I was very scared of the possibility of contracting HPV and HSV. I went to the GUM clinic and they told me that I am just anxious, so they done a swab and a blood test, and told me nothing is the problem.

But the problem persisted, I continued to feel pain at the tip of my penis, burning during urination, and an urge to urinate, so I went again today, and they told me that I had NGU. So they gave me doxycycline to take, and told me if it doesn't clear up within 2-3 weeks to come back, because it might be caused by the herpes virus.

I am very worried and scared, I can't eat and I can't sleep because of how much I think about the issue. I worry about genital warts and herpes popping up. I hope the doxycyline clears things up, but if it doesn't I will be even more anxious. I asked the escort in question if she had been vaccinated for HPV and she said yes, and then I asked her if she had ever had herpes and other STDs and she said she was clean, this comforted me slightly but I don't trust her tbh.

I don't know what to do..... Do you think it is possible that HSV can cause these symptoms? I haven't had skin lesions.

Everything points to a reaction to the rubber in the condom or any lubs or spermisides inside. Getting a penis tip irritation when using a condom,  the rubber is causing a friction irritation much like a rug burn. As mentioned before, first time herpes outbreaks appear at point of contact and since your penis was covered, the tip irritation is not herpes related.

Got my test results back. This is at 8 Weeks post exposure.

HSV I (IgG)  0.129 (Negative)
HSV II (IgG) <0.520 (Negative)

I am now starting to think that the initial symptoms I presented with were manifestations of my anxiety and guilt. This is because I realized that the sensations I described in the opening post improved dramatically when I was outside with family/friends and was generally enjoying my time. I know 8 Weeks results are not conclusive, but given that there is no evidence for HSV (sores/blisters) I am going to put this behind me and move on. Thank you everyone on this forum for helping me when I was at my most anxious and mentally unstable.

For those with Herpes, I just wanted to say that doing all the research I did also made me understand that there is a lot of stigma tied to this disease and that it has no bearing on the persons who may be infected. Whilst of course I am happy for being negative for both types, I have grown to understand that for those that have the virus, it has little effect on their quality of life and is at worst a stigmatized inconvenience.

Update:

Still no outbreak. It's nearing the 3 week mark, and there aren't any typical lesions.

I finished the doxycycline course around monday, and on tuesday I felt relief. My penis still feels sore and uncomfortable, but not as bad as before the doxycycline. The stinging if I do ever feel it (it comes and goes) is much more milder. I am also experiencing a tingling hot sensation around my scrotum and around my perineum.

I saw a different doc on tuesday to get a second opinion, he suggested that what I was experiencing is an inflamed prostate. But that doesn't explain the onset which occured 3 days after sex, and the fact that I am young which puts me at low risk of prostate related problems.

I am still very confused as to why I got these symptoms. And why they found white blood cells and pus in my urine 2weeks ago. I wore a condom, that should rule out ngu, and urethral hsv. All of this has been making me doubt whether the condom broke without me noticing it. Or maybe I somehow self innoculated by rubbing her vagina, and then rubbing me penis. very confused. I can't say with any assurance what caused these symptoms and when they will disappear completely. I still feel anxious whenever thinking about this, everytime I am reminded that there is a possiblity of a herpes infection scares me, and I just wish that these weeks can go by fast so that I can test and be rid of this fear.

I plan to do the igg test at around the 8week mark as suggested by fleetwood.

Good news on no outbreaks. I hope the antibiotics cure the stinging pain.
I hear you on the conflicting info. I was so confused at first because of all the conflicting info. This sight is great. So is Terri's herpes forum on west overhieghts clinics website.  Thats the only places I trust anymore. Good luck and again I am sure you didn't contract herpes from your exposure

Yeah I'm doing better, not as stressed as before. I still have an urge to urinate and I feel a constantly stinging pain on my tip, but according to this site:
http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Non_specific_urethritis/Pages/Treatmentpg.aspx it says it might take a week or two after the antibiotics for my symptoms to go.

I'm still not entirely sure what is causing this problem, there is conflicting information all over the web. No I idea how I got NGU when I was wearing a condom.

Still no lesions or any signs of typical herpes ob.

Thats what I have read as well. Again with the use of an unbroken condom I don't see this is an issue of herpes at all.

Update on symptoms and treatment.

Today I continued to take the doxycycline, I still feel pain at the tip of my penis, that is there through most of the day. I also have an urge to urinate for most of the day. Urination causes me NO pain. Does this rule out urethral herpes? I thought herpes is meant to really burn if you had it in your urethra.

Still no signs of lesions or blisters.

Thats the spirit !!!! Yeah your doc seems all over the board. Always go back to risk factor. Yours was incredibly low. Keep us posted on future results. There are many reading these posts in the same boat brother.

Yeah lol I can see how life360 thought my doctor was completely wrong. He scared me a lot by telling me that it could be herpes! Don't know why he would do that, especially considering he was in a GUM clinic. He said things that in my head I really did question considering I have been reading on this site for a while now. The doctor even asked me if I was sure that the condom did not break! But I would have noticed if it did, I was completely sober.

I wanna thank you and life360 for really helping me calm down instead of rushing to conclusions. My chlamydia test results aren't even back yet. Though it should be noted they tested me for stds 4days after exposure and at the time I was already on doxycycline, I was on it for 2 days, and then they told me to stop, and now they gave me doxycycline and told me to take it!!!!!

I guess I'll need more evidence before I make any conclusions. I need to give this doxycycline thing time to see if it works too. I'll get tested at around 8 weeks with an igg select for herpes just to be sure.

Hopefully the results are negative. This experience has taught me a lot, and whether I end up having it or not, I plan to settle down and get married.

First off sorry for the spelling on my previous posts. Small phone fat fingers.lol

Man your chances of hsv from your one time exposure is so freaken low. The fact you wore protection for oral and vaginal sex is fantastic. Life360 educated me pn the odds and told me thats what I need to lean on for logic sake. Getting herpes inside you while wearing an unbrokken condom. Well you probably have better odds of seeing bigfoot, the lockness monster, winning the lottery and getting struck by lightning all in the same day.
Why do you think someone like life360 who is obviously well versed in this subject seems so baffled by your Dr's words and diagnosis.  Plus no reason to scare the **** out of you with herpes when he has no EVIDENCE! !!! Not a cool move. if a doc told you hey I don't r know have anything really wrong but I think its cancer you would call him an idiot and walk out.lol. this is not any differant.
Thats the thing that got me as well. My doc scared me into believing as well. I since have gotten test results that I now have much more faith in and way more evidence that all is well.
The folks that help people on this forum deserve big time credit. Life360 grace and fleetwood are doing such an outstanding job they deserve way more than they get. They are also way better informed than any dr I have seen or talked to in person. Acrually more than all of them together!!!! My advice is to listen to them. We are in the same boat. I have just been in it longer but I know for a FACT most of your symptoms are stress and anxiety related. Also what you fid is not shameful.  The fact you are so hard on yourself means you are a good guy.

Again I must thank you for your kind words, listening to your experience really comforts me. I have no lesions as of yet, but I am keeping an open for it. The reason I am scared of HSV is because I read that it can cause NGU without lesions, though it is rare.

I had a swab test done, and the doctor said that there was pus and bacteria they found. This is why he gave me the doxycycline. He told me that if it doesn't clear up in 2 weeks to return and try something like azithromyocin.

But you are right, I shouldn't let anxiety get the better of me. I have been a really dark place for the past couple of days. I will try my best to keep my head on straight.

Did you experience any discharge? I was tested for for everything through a urine test and all was neg and no discharge or anything. I did have pain and sensitivity at the tip and opening of my penis for awhile. Again fir me everything seemed to calm down when my mind did. I agree with the fact of wearing a condom should really squash the idea of anything going in through the tip of the penis. Also herpes wont torchure you for lengths of time without presenting itself. I know how you feel believe me and the fact that a sex worker is involved always makes it worse in our minds. When in reality the fact that they use condoms for damn near everthing they are a safer bet than that drunk girl at the bar. It has taken me 3 months to start to believe there is no chance of herpes from my moment of shame. Life360 has educated me on the odds and the fact of no outbreak. I truely wish you the best of luck!!! But please as hard as it is try to give your mind a break. You are in a good place for real facts and indo. One more thing. I agree on finding another Dr. Or atleast just use him to get the tests you want. Again best of luck and I am sure you will be fine.

Thank you so much for your words of reassurance.

The thing is the doctor actually told me I have NGU. And my penis hurts most of the time, I am in pain.

I really hope you are right, and that it is nothing serious.

I had the same symptoms. As soon as I chilled out they went away. I had the sane urge to urinate. Why? Because thats the time I would inspect myself so it was always on my mind. Red itchy scrotum was from ne always touching and pulling it up to visually take a look. As soon as I stopped this it subsided In a few days. Us guys have a lot of things going on down there that are normal and we don't even really notice until we become hyper aware due to a scare or an act we are ashamed of. Take it easy on yourself in both ways. Your human and listen to life360. He has helped me out big time. Again your stress is your worst enemy. I know from experience. Every pimple, itchy spot, eye irritation or unexplained pain was HSV. Breathe easy brother I know your ok

Yes, all data shows that herpes first time outbreaks at point of contact. But those with long time herpes could have an outbreak anywhere in the boxer short area.

I had no idea that first time outbreaks only occur at point of contact... I thought they could occur almost anywhere once they get in. The is a very good argument against the idea of urethral herpetic lesion. Is there data or studies to confirm herpes behaves like this?

She did use lube, condoms, and I rubbed my penis with an antiseptic wipe following the exposure. But it baffles me that it took 2days for the irritation to surface, surely the NGU should have started the following day. And this irritation has been going on for 5 days now surely it should have cleared up if it was merely a allergy.

It should be noted that I hardly experienced any discharge. Maybe a little clear discharge a few times, but it was very little.

Again thank you so much for all the info you have provided. I think I'm getting to the bottom of this.

There was some rubbing contact in that area, but I can't remember all the details. I am really worried now.

I am wondering if this NGU that I have is being caused by herpes... It's been a day since I started taking the doxycycline. I just don't understand how it can be anything but herpes if I was wearing a condom. Surely condoms protect against NGUs very well. That Chlamydia and other bacteria is an unlikely candidate.

But my symptoms aren't intense, I feel an ache and stinging in the tip of my penis, and an urge to urinate. When I do urinate I don't experience intense burning, just a mild burn. I began to experience this symptom last week on thursday.

Please can you tell me what this could be?

If not part of your genital area (like the pubic monds area) made rubbing contact with hers during the protected vaginal sex , your chances are zero.
Testing at 8 weeks post exposure is a good indicator.

I'm really scared that these symptoms might be herpes. And I keep checking my penis and scrotum every few hours in fear. The burning I experience whilst urinating is mild, but I have a urge to urinate through out the day. And my scrotum is very itchy and red. I am still taking the doxycycline in hopes that it helps.

What are the chances that I caught herpes?

And what is the earliest I can do a blood test for antibodies?

Anxiety is hurting me. I am a paranoid of every itch and every bump I find. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would go to another doctor

He posited the possibility that maybe I had touched my penis after rubbing her clit or something. I think he is right in that it could be a possibility. I asked him about herpes and he said that symptoms can take months to appear, which is the opposite of what Dr Hunter Handsfield has said in the expert forum.

My chlamydia results haven't returned, so he said it could be that, or mycoplasma, or natural bacteria that is normally in the mouth, and then said if it isn't those things, it's probably urethral herpes. But from what I've read on this forum, urethral herpes is very rare, and contracting herpes from one protected exposure is also rare.

I just don't know what to believe anymore, everyone says something different on the internet, and now this doctor has confused me too. He said they found pus after the swab was taken.

I'll let you guys know more once I have more info on this situation, and whether any other symptoms appear in the coming weeks. I just feel really anxious and check myself numerous times in the day. It was a big mistake, and I hate myself for slipping in that moment.

None of what they told you makes any sense. Whats does sex is messy and things can happen mean? Either your penis was covered or it wasent and herpes has nothing to do what your penis either as first time symptoms take place at point of contact so where was the point of rubbing skin to skin contact? There wasant any!
