Irrational fear.

This is going to sound absolutely ridiculous, but I have an irrational fear of contracting genital herpes. I've been seeing a therapist, but lately I have relapsed. I know I do not have hsv 2, but I do have hsv 1 orally. I rarely get cold sores, but I'm always on the alert for cold sores that could occur on my face. This morning I woke up, and had burning small bumps on my chin. It's possible that this could be pimples, because the bumps don't itch. They just burn. I'm afraid that I accidentally touched the site and then touched myself while going to the bathroom. I started freaking out and after examining myself I noticed a small, tiny bump on my labia. I am freaking out. I tested positive for hsv 1 years ago btw.

A couple years ago I also accidentally touched my cold sore & then touched my genitals. At this point, I had tested positive for hsv 1 with a value greater than 8.0. I know you guys aren't here to give advice, but I really need some help/advice.

1. What are the chances I passed my oral infection to my genitals today?
2. Should I be worried about the small bump?
3. Can you contract genital herpes from touching a cold sore & then touching your genitals?
4. Have you ever heard of someone contracting genital herpes this way?

While nothing is impossible. this doesn't happen. Look at it this way. With upwards of 70% of adults having hsv. Iif this was common, or even some what common we would see it every day.
The reason it doesn't happen is two fold.
For one thing the virus isn't transmited this way (like you said skin to skin and being massaged in) and your antibodies protect you as well.
Believe me you are just fine and in no risk of moving your hsv to the genitals.

About as likely as being hit by a meteor.  Really you needn't worry about this. Put that fear to bed your genitals are safe from your oral infection. Your safe from other peoples hsv1 as well.

Okay, thank you so much feelingundone! You have truly made me feel better.

Is it even possible to pass your oral infection to your genitals by touching a cold sore & then touching your genitals, even if it was your first outbreak? I heard that it's only a theory, but isn't passed from your mouth, to your hand, to your genitals. I heard it has to be direct contact. Is this true?

Hi
I will try to put your fears to rest. That means you are going to have to listen and believe in what I am about to tell you.
You absolutely did not and will not spread this to your genitals. With an established infection like you have. Your body builds up antibodies that keep it in check. Basically you are immune to spreading it to other regions of your body.
Have a great weekend and don't worry about ever getting hsv1 on your genital area.
Hope that helps

Okay, I understand. What would you say the likelihood is of passing your oral infection to your genitals by touching a cold sore & then touching your genitals?
Sorry, I'm just trying to put things into perspective for myself.
