Nervous... Need Expert Opinion

I am an HSV-1 positive male and I recently found out that a former partner (female) tested positive for HSV-2 appx 2 weeks ago on 12/12/12 she tested on nov 28. Me and her had sex protected vaginally in august and sept no sex in october and unprotected oral sex performed on me in november. We didnt have sex at all in dec. No vaginal sex since sept. We only had sex twice a month in august and sept. Once orally in nov, i was the receiver. Do you think im ok?

My question is 2 fold:

1. Should I worry and get tested?
2. What are my chances of contracting this disease since we used protection?

I still think there is a good chance you did not contract herpes, if that is the question.

Terri,

Even if she recently contracted herpes <6 months ago? I know the transmission risk is a little higher.

Terri,

Tested NEGATIVE for hiv! Still nervous about this hsv2 exposure...I really need closure so I can put my mind at ease. Do you think it's a good chance that I didn't contract hsv2?

Up to you.  Our clinic recommends STD testing between partner changes.  If it would give you peace of mind, I think you should.

Terri,

Do you also recommend that I get an HIV test just in case?

I still think the timing is OK for you to be tested after the first of the year.

Thanks for the response, we last had protected vaginal sex in September twice. Used condom every time. I tested for herpes in 2010 was +hsv1 and -hsv2. Had cold sores on lip.

I'm not at all worried about the oral contact since you are already HSV 1 positive and that is the most likely thing you would acquire from her through receiving oral sex.

If you had intercourse last in August, then if you want to get tested to see if you are infected, you could do that with accuracy now.  I think the risk of you getting HSV from her if you used condoms every time is low.  Were you ever tested before to know if you had herpes or not?
