He says that he's gotten cold sores before on his mouth. And we haven't done oral when I've had an outbreak on the lip(I rarely get them). I've recently gotten one but it barely showed and now its gone...im wondering how long after from it appearing should I attempt oral? A week..two weeks? Thanks for the response btw. And we've had oral..without protection while I didnt have an outbreak..so I'm worried he's gotten something...

Hi, any lip sores should be completly healed and the best way to avoid passing it is to use condoms or to confirm if your partner already has hsv1 as if so he would be basicly immune to contract in another area. Just be aware  as the risk for shedding does occur but not that often.
