Oral Sex during possible prodromal stage if cold sore

Hello,
I'm a male, and 2 days ago, my girlfriend of several months spent the night at my place and we had sex, that night and the next morning [which would be yesterday], and I performed oral sex yesterday morning. I have hsv1 and she is aware of it, and we have engaged in such activity before. I noticed it   the first time 3 years ago, got a recurrence a year later, and have been latent for 2 years. Since then, I've had partners who couldn't remember having a cold sore in the past who were also aware, and had performed oral on them frequently for months without incident.

After she left, maybe a couple hours later, I noticed my lip felt a little swollen, I looked in the mirror and didn't note anything like abrasions or blisters. I thought I might have bit it, or perhaps it was bit during kissing. I went out for the day and when I came back perhaps 7 hours later, I noticed yellow flat crater-shaped ulcers on my lower lip, where I had felt the swelling occur. I hoped it was a bite mark or canker sore as it was just inside where my lips meet, and i had not experienced any red clusters of blisters. Only the initial swelling sensation followed by ulcers hours later [which I thought took at least a few days and after forming blisters.] This morning it seemed to be crusting over as I would expect a cold sore to do, and I'm feeling a mild throb. So, I'm thinking this is a recurrent outbreak though it seems to have skipped the typical blister stage. Perhaps, it's not?

My concern is that if it is an outbreak, which I'd guess it is, and i was in prodrome and I hadn't noticed yet when i performed oral sex on my girlfriend, which was foreplay and was probably for a few mins. She said she couldn't recall ever having a cold sore. I'm worried about transmitting and hoping everything will work out for the best. How concerned should I be? I'm fairly worried because when I contracted this my ex was getting her first outbreak and didn't know she had it or at least didn't recognize the symptoms. I'm hoping that because this is a recurrence the shedding will not be as intense as my ex's. Is there any information of the risk for prodrome or only a few hours before prodromal phase? If it was early prodrome, could she still not contact it just based on chance or a percentage? I read one forum with a similar scenario and it appeared there was no transmission and that perhaps the prodrome started after the oral sex due to minor trauma. I hope we are that lucky and really hope she wasn't exposed to my hsv1. I can't imagine how bad I'd feel

Ok. Well, I'll roll with that and keep my fingers crossed. I just hate how close in timing it was so it worries me. Guess nothing to do but wait. I'm glad you are confident. I saw the cdc said 4days average for ob with a range of 2-12days, so in a couple of days I'll breathe a little easier. Wish me luck!  She's a really good girl.

On average first time outbreaks occur after one week. It is transmitted by oral sex but the risk is when an obvious lip sore is there at the time. Again, prodrome means the virus is on the way but not there yet so yes it is a higher risk but most prodrome is a tingling sensation.

Wow, you guys are quick. I'm really grateful.

I understand that at the crusting phase you're on the down slope. I'm not at the point where it turns brown. It's more golden if you keep it dry, and a little fleshier and harder to see when its wet. its not super evident, but it hurts like a cold sore.

guess I'm concerned that it appeared so soon after and that there was some over lap with shedding. I thought during prodrome you were at a higher risk of transmission? She doesn't live close enough that i can see her during the we and she doesn't know I got a cold sore right after she left and I want to explain my concern, but at the same time I don't want to worry her. I'm not sure what I should do. If there wasn't an open sore should I not worry, or is there a significant risk of transmission in the hours before you see anything? Is it common to have oral sex, on partner gets a recurrent cold sore the next day and then a few days later the other person has their initial outbreak?

Hi, i think you in the clear as its passed with an obvious open lip lesion and does not normally crust over so quickly. Prodrome means coming so it was not on the surface yet. I cant answer if you were shedding however.
