Oral hsv1 & hsv2

My partner and I each have a form of hsv. I have hsv2 genitally and he has hsv1 orally. If we only perform oral sex on each other is there a likelihood that we can pass each other our types of hsv? Meaning, him having hsv1&2 orally and me having hsv1&2 genitally. I've heard I'm less susceptible hsv1 overall but I'm curious if his oral hsv1 provides him protection from oral hsv2.

Hi your question about him having hsv1 orally will not likely reduce the the likelhood of contracting hsv2 though studies differ on this, but we do know that contracting hsv2 will less likely show symptoms. Are either of you taking suppressive meds?

According to our top researchers, HSV-2 antibodies, after about 4 months following infection, will protect against a new infection of HSV-1 almost completely. However, the reverse isn't true. So he can contract HSV-2 from you, certainly genitally, and less likely orally. You probably will not contract HSV-1 from him, if you've had the virus for longer than about 4 months.

I know we both can contract each other's hsv but my question is more specific - I asked could I get genital hsv1&2 (only genitally) and could he get oral hsv1&2 (only orally). We are ONLY HAVING ORAL SEX. I don't have any form of hsv orally - he doesn't have any genitally.

I've had hsv2 for almost 20 yrs so I'm not worried about me. I'm concerned for my partner. We only perform oral sex and we just want to know how protected he is from oral hsv2 if he already has oral hsv1.

On a basic yes or no answer, it would be yes its possible to contract both but if a person has hsv1 and later contracts hsv2 oral then hsv2 would not often show symptoms.
