Out of no where

I have been in a relationship faithfully for 2 years now. I have been dog sitting for a woman that I work with and have been staying at her house. The dog has a wound they have been treating since giving birth and is antibiotics. Yesterday while peeing I noticed bumps around my urethra. The biggest one has what looks like a black dot under the skin. I have no pain from peeing and minimal itching. I went to urgent care the doc did a swab test for herpes and put me on an antiviral and an antibiotic.  I have had no past breakouts.  I was wondering what you think it is or how I would have herpes with no first bad breakout before this one.

Again, first episodes can present in a number of ways beyond the typical. Some folks' first symptoms are very mild, and are often mistaken for other things.

The dog could have given me a skin infection.

Yeah this would've been my first outbreak and to what I understand it should be a lot worse? Does not hurt to pee and no open sores. Just the bumps around the whole of my head. Just confused and worried.

I should emphasize, however, that your symptoms could be due to other things, and I recommend you rule those out as well. Your doctor put you on an antibiotic, which tells me that he's considering something other than herpes.

Hi - I'm a little confused. Is the dog related to your question?

A black dot doesn't sound like herpes.

It's quite common for people who have HSV not to have symptoms until yeas later. Several of the members of my support group only discovered they had it when they passed it to someone else. Some have had tests which resulted in very high antibody counts that indicated they'd had the virus for years and never knew. In fact, Terri Warren has said that up to 90% of HSV+ folks are unaware they have it due to a lack of symptoms.

Have your swab results come back?
