Please help. Possible Herpes. Trying hard to stay calm.

Hi all, I am a 22 year old female and I recently had my first sexual encounter. I had sex with a boy I had been seeing for about 3 months. This incident occurred on June 1st. Two nights ago ( June 23rd) I was laying in bed going to sleep when I felt an itching in my inner lip of my vagina. I started scratching at felt a pain but thought nothing of it. The next day I had a small white cicle on my inner lip, sort of resembling pictures of the ulcer stage of herpes that I have been googling. I was freaking out and began picking at it with a sterilized needle  ( I know this was stupid but I was not thinking clearly) I wanted to see if there was a hair in there although it did not look like my normal ingrown hairs which I can usually see the hair in. I did see a long hair that came out as I was digging with the needle but I am not sure if it was from where I was digging or from next to it. I have no flu like symptoms or swollen lymph nodes and no other bumps or spots. I know in the long run herpes is not a big deal but this being my first time having sex I am really freaking out and don't know what to do. The sex was unprotected, I don't know if it matters but it only lasted for a few minutes, I am making an appointment with my gnyno I know it may be too late for a culture though, any thoughts would be so helpful. I have bee a bit of a wreck and can't get off of google. Please respond as soon as possible. Thanks so much.

If you had a lesion I believe you could have gotten. It swabbed without being at the three month mark. I believe the three months is for the blood test. Hoping for the best outcome for u :)

And I have been reading the MD threads and they seem to be in agreement with other cases that  22 days after exposure is rare and that if it was herpes it would appear within 2-10 days. This is my first sexual encounter so it could not be a recurrent outbreak. I am just trying to give myself some peace of mind while I wait out these three months. I know there is not much you can tell me over the internet so I understand.

I know I plan on getting a blood test at the 3 month mark and there is nothing to be swabbed so while  I wait I was just wondering it that sounds typical of a herpes lesion to help me understand a bit better. Thank for your time.

the only way to know for sure is to get a swab test or a blood test

Just also wanted to add .. the white circle, when I dug into it with the needle I was able to like .. .scoop out the white part.. if that makes sense no pain or blood or anything like that, the white circle returned the next day before healing the following day but I was just wondering if it is typical of a herpes ulcer to behave like that, to be able to scoop the whiteness out of it with no pain. Also, the night before the night I began itching I was in a hot tub and bathing suit for a few hours and that next day I began my waitressing job where I was in tight pants and walking around all day. I am still going to my OBGYN but I am just waiting for the 3 months to be up because I can only afford one visit right now.

Reading your post reminds me of what I did. I saw a bump, day later turned into a white ulcer with a hair in it, pulled it out with sterialized tweezers. I think I started with itching and tingling before hand, not really sure, other than that no symptoms. Day two, no major change went to urgent care to get tested. Day three saw two small blisters, knew what it was by then. Day four results came back :(. Dr. Said I had it for at least six months but I thought it showed after three? Not saying this is what you have and hopefully its not. Try not to panic (better said than done) and good luck. And try not to use Google too much. The pictures are horrible. I just had the onr spot starting off

Hi Grace, sorry to bug you. I can't get into my gyno until Monday which I know is too late for a culture. I'm also not sure if my partner will be able to get a blood test. I am really, really, really freaking out. I can't seem to get myself out of bed. I am trying to be reasonable and put things in perspective but I am not doing very well.  I know you said three months for an accurate herpes blood test but do you think perhaps an earlier blood test would be a decent indication? Also, in all honesty, is there a strong likelihood that this is in fact herpes. I know you can't give a diagnosis over the internet but any information would be helpful.

Thanks so much for your time Grace! I know herpes is really not a big deal and just a skin irritation and I keep trying to tell myself that. But this being my first time having sex after waiting so long has really been taking a toll on me. I have not been holding it together very well.

this could be many things going on. really hard to guess.

your partner can get tested for everything for low cost at his local health department except for herpes. he'll need to seek out type specific herpes igg blood testing elsewhere.

Thanks so much a plan on getting a full std screening and never having unprotected sex ever again before I know my partners full history.

I am going to ask him to get tested but I am not sure of his insurance status and if he will be able to afford it at the moment, so while I wait just for some clarity in your opinion do you think I have herpes

you have to wait at least 3 months post encounter for type specific herpes igg blood testing to be accurate which is why your partner getting full std testing done now and sharing results with you is going to be very helpful for you.

make sure your gyn tests you for gonorrhea, chlamydia and trich when you are seen too.

Yes pregnancy prevention was covered. I know you can't give me an accurate answer but does this sound like herpes to you? Also how accurate would a blood test be at the 4 week mark ? Thanks so much for your time

ask him to go and seek out full std testing and to let you know what his status is.

going to be seen is the best thing for you to do. was pregnancy prevention covered?

No he did not :( I feel so stupid I always told myself I would always use condoms but we were not planning on having sex but it was our last night before college graduation and we would no longer be seeing one another as we live very far and it just *happened*
