Positive HSV2

Hi ...

I about 4 weeks ago found out that I was positive for HSV2 after having a blood test done. My IgG number came back as 5.46 about 2 weeks later I had blood taken again and my IgG level was 6. I had had unprotected sex with partner numerous times from the end of November until the end of December. I was pretty sure that I had contracted HSV2 from him since I have never had an outbreak and hadn't previously been sexually active for over 2 years. This morning my doctor told me that I must have had HSV2 from more than 6 months ago or the IgG numbers wouldn't be showing ... Is this true ? Is it possible for IgG numbers to be positive with only 4-6 weeks since exposure ??

Thank you

Doctors have to know a lot about multiple diseases and illnesses. Many do not specialize in herpes. I agree that the doctor should not have been so definitive, but there is a possibility they are correct. A reading 4-6 weeks after infection could be quite high.

Yes because I haven't seen real herpatic symptoms I do not know exactly where I was infected or when.

After you conforming my thoughts I think my partner may have been previously infected and passed it to me ...

Just still curious how doctor could tell me with certainty that I've had this for over 6 months due to IgGs showing ... After even looking online I see that IgGs can show up sooner ...

Yes it is possible, albeit a small chance that your partner was infected with HSV2 and passed it to you in the same week. It is more likely though that either of you has had the virus for a longer period of time.

Without HSV1, you most likely would have experienced some symptoms upon infection. What you describe doesn't sound very herpetic but it can be very mild.

I  experienced 1 bump on my vagina but it was only there for 12 hours during the waiting period of finding out test results for the first time around probably 1/11/14. It was flesh colored and was painful but disappeared quickly. I had never before seen anything and have not since then.

I am not positive for hsv1  orally.

How long would you think it takes for IgG numbers to become positive ? My partner had told me he had never had an outbreak and was not aware that he possibly had hsv2 when I asked him ... But he told me he had been having sexual intercourse with another woman in the same week he was with me ... Is it possible he contracted it from her then gave it to me ??

Thank you for your answers ! It seems that no one can really tell me anything even the 2 doctors I've now asked .

That is a reasonable amount of time to show a reading of the levels you have been showing. Many people actually spike in their levels in the weeks after infection.

You do not however have conclusive evidence that you have been infected since November but in no way can the possibility be discounted.

Did you experience symptoms? Do you have HSV1 orally?
