Possible Herpetic Gingivostomatitis?

Good afternoon,

I'm glad I found this forum and I hope I can find some of the answers I'm looking for. My story begins almost two weeks ago when I went home with a female that I had met at a bar. We had protected sex, but the condom did break at one point. There was also a lot of tongue kissing involved. I did recieve oral sex which was mostly unprotected. I felt fine up until the following weekend. I went out drinking with some buddies and woke up with what I assumed was a bad hangover. Which was strange to me because I've honestly never experienced a hangover.

As the day progressed however, I didn't start feeling any better. I would say by that evening I had begun to feel worse. My left lymph node is swollen. I have no desire to eat or drink and my throat and left ear are in pain. A couple days later I also woke up experiencing very sensitive and red gums. Along with my tongue and the roof of my mouth having some tenderness and sensistivity in different areas. But I cannot seem to point out any kind of recognizable sore or lesion or anything of that nature.

I visisted the dentist yesterday and he told me that it was probably some form acute "stress or illness induce" gingivitis. I can't remember the exact medical term he used but that's how he explained it it to me, I was prescriped Chlorhexidine Gluconate oral rinse and told to use it for a few days and see what happens. Today is the second day using it and I haven't noticed any improvement. I spoke to a medic (I am in the military) today and he told me to give it a few more days and see what happens.

Basicially I am just wanting to know is there something else I should be prepared to deal with? Other than "stress induced" gingivitis? I apologize for the long email. Thanks for your time and I look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Rabbit

also if they say it's herpangina, that's not oral herpes.

Haven't had anyone really look into it yet. My medic said to try the mouthwash for a few days and he said if it's herpes related than it shouldn't bring the swelling down. So we'll see.

This could be oral herpes , it could be a viral infection or it could be a combination of things going on.  Without lesion cultures, no way to know if herpes is a factor or not.

did they do a strep culture on your throat?

Also, I forgot to mention I lost a leg in Iraq about 3 years ago and went through several blood tranfusions so that could obviously be the factor as well.
