About a month ago I had protected sex with a new partner and about two weeks later decided to get tested for STDs (including the Herpes HSV1 & HSV2). My HSV1 test came out positive (as I already knew I had this strand of the virus since I was younger), but I was completely shocked to see that my HSV2 came back positive as well (with a +1.91 reading). When I've had sex in the past it has been protected at all times and have been always checked for STDs right after sleeping with a new partner and have always come out negative on the HSV2 test. I was devastated and cried the whole weekend. My doctor suggested I re-take the test as it could have easily been a false positive. The second reading came out positive once again for HSV1 but NEGATIVE for HSV2. My question is, which reading should I go by? The first or the second? My doctor suggests I take the tests once again a month from now to "break the tie" as she likes to call it, but I'm confused how a false positive could come from a HerpesSelect tests. Has this happened before? Please advise. Thank you.
