Recurrent HSV urethritis or something else?

Three years ago I was diagnosed with HSV-1, my symptoms at the time were sharp burning pain in penis when urinating, two small and fairly painless blisters on the penis and a painful sore near my anus, swabs showed positive for HSV-1. I've had rather infrequent recurrences since, maybe once a year I get slightly sore around the anus but not really much of an issue. A month ago I got a more severe recurrence with painful sores around the anus and discomfort in the penis. This lasted for about ten days. Once I was well I received oral sex from a one night stand and two days later the soreness in my anal region came back as well as a slight burning in my penis. The sores went away within a few days but the discomfort in my penis has come back, it's slightly painful after urination and feels uncomfortable for much of the time, similar to how it felt when the outbreak first started. Could a herpes outbreak come and go like this or am I likely to have contracted anything from the oral sex? I don't have a discharge at all so gonorrhea seems a bit unlikely.

Honestly, it could be NGU, herpes or even a UTI, and your best bet is to get this checked by your doctor to make sure it's not something that needs to be treated with an antibiotic. Only lab tests will be able to determine this.

I hope you feel better soon!
