Recurring Itchless, Painless, Small Red Spots On Penis

Hello,

In early August I had a one night stand - unprotected vaginal sex (brief - 20 seconds maybe). I am an uncircumcised male, 22 years old. She was 30.

About 6 weeks later I noticed about 5 red spots on the shaft of my penis, underneath my foreskin, aswell as 1 or 2 on the head of my penis. There were small (1/2mm in diameter). They disappeared the following day. A few days later, some more appeared in different locations, and as I rolled my foreskin back over the head of my penis they seemed to be like a mirror image.

I've spoken to a doctor, unfortunately there was nothing to see on that particular day and despite showing him pictures, he told me to come back at a time when they were visible if they don't clear up completely.

For about 6 weeks these spots were disappearing and reappearing - sometimes with 3 or 4 days between them. Always different locations. They then vanished completely for about 3 months.

Again, no itching, no burning, no pain, no puss, no ulceration, no other problems urinating. At one stage i had some lower back pain and my lymph nodes in my neck were really painful for about 2 days, I'm not sure if it's in any way related.

I had never had anything like this before, and so naturally I'm desperately worried that the spots are signs of an HSV-1 or HSV-2 infection, despite the fact they don't seem to be 'typical' symptoms.

A few days ago, a 2 spots appeared. 2 days later, they were gone and another 2 in different locations. The next day, one more somewhere else. Always under the foreskin / rarely on the penis head itself.

There does seem to be a few specialists on the forum, and I'm hoping someone can give me some advice as to the cause of these, much less give me some information to go back to the doctor with, questions to ask, tests to suggest, etc...

Thanks.

Hi. Sorry for the delayed reply.

So in January I had a full STD screening offered by the NHS, Hepatitus B, C, HIV, Gonorrhea, Syphillis and Chlamydia. All returned negative.

There were some small red spots at the time of my appointment and I showed the doctor the pictures I took. She was quite adament they were not HSV related, and said the disappearing / reappearing nature of them was unusual and definitely not associated with HSV. She did not swab what was there but to be honest they were so small I can understand why she ruled it out.

Since January the spots vanished and have not returned (6 months later).

I must admit I'm pretty sceptical. I do think I picked up some rare viral infection - maybe a strain of HPV/HSV with atypical symptoms, I don't know. Whatever it is, the spots are gone and haven't returned.

I read the other day that 80% of people are actually infected with HPV with many being atypical for their lifetime. I must admit, if that's the case I don't think it's worth worrying about - there are many virii we carry around in our bodies but, as so many people document online, the stigma with genital virii is often much, much worse than the actual symptoms the virii itself is responsible for.

This whole thing has been a hell of a learning experience for me.

these aren't herpes related.  You can test in the UK but you'll need to pay out of pocket at a private clinic for type specific herpes igg blood testing. it's my understanding that the gum clinics don't offer it.  did you cover your other std testing bases since it was unprotected sex?

these sound more like irritation than anything.  probably you've even had these symptoms previously and just never had any reason to worry !!  You can try something as simple as an unscented body powder daily before dressing to help. also make sure if you aren't circumcised that you clean under the foreskin once a day.  also if you are obsessively checking out the lil guy, STOP!!  you are just irritating him more.

These sound nothing at all like the typical cold sores that accompany HSV infections.

However, plenty of time has now passed such that you can obtain am IgG blood test type specific for HSV1 and HSV2 to assess your status.

It is however most unlikely that you obtained herpes from the encounter or that these symptoms are caused by herpes.
