Red Itchy Scrotum

Hello,

About 3 weeks ago I had protected vaginal sex with a new partner. Within 2 or 3 hours I noticed an itchy type of burn sensation in the front of my scrotum - I immediately put this down to friction.
I waited 1 week and went to see a doctor - his opinion was that this is not a herpes outbreak. He prescribed Hydrocortizole (mild topical steroid + anti fungal cream) and treated this reddness (which covers only my scrotum, 3 weeks on)  as a fungal infection. My scrotum became inflamed by this treatment after 1 week, so the doctor prescribed Novasone, topical steroid cream only.
So 3 weeks down the track I still have a mild reddness, itching (no more burning) on my scrotum only. The medium redness seems invoked by the steroid cream upon initial application, and then it subsides throughout the day to a nice pink color, and sometimes reverts back to a deeper pink/light red. I apply twice a day and this process repeats itself, however the itching hair follicles never seem to go completely, but are dulled by the topical steroid.

Could this be herpes related granted that 3 weeks on I have had no other symptoms other than irritation, itchyneess and reddness, and granted a doctor with a practical dermatology qualification has said that he beleives this is not sexually transmitted? I have tested negative to all other STDs.

hey, i have a similar situation and I am pretty scared right now. About 30 hours ago i had protected sex with a girl i knew had herpes, I washed my genitals and scrotum with lysol and now my scrotum is somewhat inflamed and irritated, it began shortly after having sex. Is this a result of the lysol irritating the skin or do i likely have herpes. I already know what i did was beyond stupid but i really need some help right now.

Any progress on your situation? I have tested negative for Herpes from a blood test but I too am experiencing the redness and irritation you mentioned, with slight itching but no burning. I have seen 3 doctors and none of them thought I had herpes either. Please any info would be of great help.

Hi guys,

Thankyou for your answers.

I have reduced the novasone use to once a day at the request of the doctor. The surface, although not inflamed is still quite red and itchy. Particularly around the follicles. The skin feels a little raw also. Every time I see the doctor it looks pink so he feels it is mending and should be ok by the end of the week!! It seems to fluctuate from reddish to pink. Very frustrating! What could cause this? Is this unusual in the healing process - particularly the itchiness - its going on 24 days now.

Thankyou

As syrialee already said- a newly acquired herpes infection will not occur that quickly.  Your symptoms also do not sound like they are related to herpes either.  YOu've also been seen by a professional who doesn't feel that this is herpes either.

antifungal creams and topical steroids can be very irritating to our sensitive genital skin.  At this point perhaps applying nothing for a week might be more helpful than to continue to apply creams that cause you more irritation.

I would trust your Doctors opinion on this. A herpes outbreak immediately after sexual contact is not going to happen.  Trust your doctor and move on!!!
