Red Swollen bump under skin on labia... is this herpes?!?!

Almost 24 hours ago i felt some sore sharp pain 'down there'. my jeans were tight and one of the seams was pressing against what i discovered to be a lump under the skin on my outer labia (top part, further away from vaginal opening). it was very sore and it felt like it was deffinatley under the skin because you could not see a noticeble bump. I was very concerned because my boyfriends ex-girlfriend had herpes, and although he is unsure and thinks he doesnt have it, theres a chance he might without knowing. The doctor i saw this morning was very rude and rushed and prescribed an antibiotic ointment for a mild skin infection. she did not even ask me about my sexual history which is why i am unsure of this diagnosis! could it be herpes?!?! has anyone experienced this? it is not a blister like herpes, but im wondering if the herpes blister takes time to fully develop? would this turn into a blister? what do in grown hairs look and feel like??

If you read our read before posting post on this forum you'll see that it's all volunteer and though we try to make sure everyone gets an answer and hopefully within a timely manner, it doesn't always happen. also we request you just keep all your questions in one post and not make a new one for each one. thank you for your future cooperation with this.  we also have very many resources listed in our herpes health page too for info while waiting for an answer to your questions :)

If you aren't comfortable with the provider you saw then you need to go and be seen today by another one for further work up.  If you and/or your partner haven't followed up with proper std testing from your previous partners, both of you should do so.

A blood test for herpes at this point only tells you who has what as you've found out. A lesion culture of active symptoms is what it takes to properly diagnose hsv1 genitally. The provider you saw didn't feel that your symptoms were genital herpes which though not perfect, is helpful.

i talked to my boyfriend about that, obviously it seems so easy to just get a blood test and see if you have the virus.. but something like 60% of people have oral herpes, even if they dont know it. so if the blood test results are positive, how will i know if its oral or genital? because even oral herpes can infect you "down there" right? any ideas, i really appreciate the input

This doesn't sound like what usually happens but I have heard of similar scenarios like this for herpes...Dr's seem to have a problem with diagnosing herpes without the classical symptoms or a blood test. I'm sure she would have ordered you a blood test if you told her your boyfriends ex has herpes.
