this doesn't sound at all like a herpes infection. being seen properly for a proper work up is the best thing to do. odds are it's a fungal infection or folliculitis but a proper work up is in order.

To Rayray,
You didn't mention how big the spots are, of if they hurt at all, so I went ahead and found the following info on all the red bumps in general, and then about red bumps in the pubic area, as well. Here are some of the possible causes:
Common causes of itchy bumps, spots and rashes
Scabies
Extremely intense Itchy red bumps or an itchy rash that has formed largely on warm parts of the body, such as the genital area, armpits, elbows, wrists, webbing of the hands and feet or other places where there are folds and crevices, is likely a sign of scabies. As the infection progresses, the itching may spread further across other parts of the skin due to an allergic reaction to the mite. Often the skin will become crusty or scaly, with visible burrow like lines or trails on the skins surface throughout the body. Getting rid of scabies requires discipline.
Bed Bugs
A series of swollen itchy red spots on various areas of the body found after waking up from sleep, is usually a sign that the sleeping area could be infested with bedbugs. The position of bed bug bites are usually spread quite close to one another and will often appear quite orderly. The bites are usually found anywhere on the body, including the back and stomach area.
Flea Bites
A series of itchy red dots, that are slightly raised on exposed or accessible parts of your skin, such as your legs and feet might be from flea bites. Usually identifiable by a small red dot in the centre of the itchy bump. Fleas can live in carpets and on pets. Read more about getting rid of fleas in the house.

* Candida infection

Only a doctor can advise what treatments are appropriate for your specific medical situation. Always discuss all treatment options with a doctor before making a decision, including whether to start or discontinue any treatment plan.
You may want to try OTC Lotrimin AF (anti-jock itch cream version) for temp relief.
You may have a STD and you should get lab testing screening.

Hope I helped, but stick around for more answers from others, they might be able to find better info than I did.
Good luck!
