fever sore

Hi Doctor;
i am 27 years old.
i remember many times during my life after being sick, especially after having fever i get a fever sore on my lips.
it happened like every 2 or 3 years .
now when i search online about the causes, they only link to herpes hsv-1 .
and i also remember getting tested negative many times for it.

dose having such sores means i have it ?

How were you tested for hsv1? Did you have a type specific IgG blood test?

It sounds like you could have it, but only a test will tell you for sure. The IgG blood test also misses about 30% of hsv1 infections, so it's possible that you could have it and the test won't catch it. If you feel you must know, you can ask for a Western Blot test. I can help you get that from your doctor, but let's talk about how you were tested first. You may not need it.

If you do have it, you have good company. About half the population has it. Overall, it's not a big deal, though you could transmit it to someone's genitals while performing oral sex if they don't already have hsv1.
