I posted a few days ago and I'm having trouble navigating to find responses to my post.  I posted that currently my main problem seems to be post herpetic neuralgia, although the "post" is not really, b/c it's the only symptom I've been getting for about the last ten years.  However, it can be debilitating and last spring lasted nonstop for over three months.  Painful to walk, no energy, daily activities very difficult.  When my kids were little, I didn't know that the neuralgia and the herpes were related, long before internet and before much was known about herpes.  I suffered neuralgia for years on end.  My kids thankfully  seem to be free of it so far (they're grown and married).

I tested Negative with th Herpe Select IgG immunoblot at 15.5 weeks and Neg again on a combined IgG 1/2 at 6 months. But I cannot let my symptoms go as not being HSV, I did test negative for every other STD, and was origionally diagnosed with NGU. But as Joe stated, waht can cause almost constant pain, burning, irritation  in the crotch area when the HSV test comes back negative.
Now I her that the combined test is no good because of a high rate of fle positives as opposed to false negatives (Dr. Hook comment), correct me if Im wrong but the combined tests are good for something right????

I have a feeling that the we are right statement is made in sarcasm.  I will speak for myself but I can tell you this isn't a right or wrong statement.  My point is I want people to get help.  After a point you have to say I have had every test possible to prove I don't have herpes. So many people are telling me I don't have herpes.

In this case there is a lot of information.  Some of the information comes from experts that have shared there knowledge and experince in both of your cases.  We just want to see you guys get the right answers and help you need outside of MH from the professionals out there.  If its not Herpes then lets get the right answers as to what this is.  In your case Verysaddude you need further testing to confirm your status.  In his case he needs to move on with further diagnoising treatment.

Verysad if I'm not mistaken you have yet to take the WB to confirm your low positive. Even on HHH's expert forum, he is quoted as saying that 40% of low positives are actually negative! Why say you have herpes when there's a huge chance you don't? You cannot say your symptoms are from herpes, especially if you have yet to confirm you have it. And, even if you are positive, you're assuming that your symptoms are from herpes. A motto that's often used on this board is - just because a person has herpes, doesn't mean that every symptom is caused by herpes.

You and Joe should post on the STD expert forum. Between either Dr. Hook or Dr. Handsfield, they'd give you very good information and advice.

The forum is here for people to share information and share their experince with the virus.  Truly it is.  But what he is asking for is information that won't prove anything for himself.  He is trying to talk himself into having HSV.  The proof at this point is very clear in his own post.  He hasn't yet had a positive test and of those tests hes had the best in testing out there.  WB and HerpeSelect...

In your case you tested positive.  He hasn't and has been told by several people including one expert whos practice deals with a high amount of herpes cases per year.  Whos entire study and has written a lot of books regarding herpes.  One who by anyones standards would be considered an expert in the field of Herpes.  My personal concern is that he is going to gather this information and then try to prove to others that he has herpes and that what he has is PHN.  Which once again there is no proof.  These type of questions really won't prove anything that isn't already on very vaild medical places.

Terri Warren is a great and helpful resource whom deals with this stuff daily.  If Terri were to tell me that I have herpes I would say I have herpes.  If Terri says I don't have herpes I would say I don't have herpes.  See my point?  Several people here say he needs to follow up and take Herpes off the list.  He has had several docotors conclude he is negative.  Something else is to blame.  Be it a kidney infection, viral infection, etc.  There is something else to explain.  Given all the worrying he has done I would be shocked that he didn't have an outbreak.

Its sad to see one person not wanting to accept the simple facts and be more concerned with investigating something other than Herpes.  I know if I had the testing he had I would be more then jumping for joy.  I would be buying the entire forum a bottle of wine.

2. Tingling - same as above - YES
3, Shooting pains - YES
4, lesions, blisters - NO
5, frequent or painful urination  pain before and after urinatimg - NO
6. How long after exposure did you test positive with a blood test. Any one test negative at 12-16 weeks later to become positive? 8 Weeks
7. How was it acuired? oral, vaginal, anal, kissing, just plain touching - VAGINAL
8, Any one ever autoinnoculate them selves - meaning spread it to another part of your body? - NO
9.  Anyone ever experience Post herpetic neuralgia - tinglign and burning for weeks, moths or years after infection  - I BELIEVE THIS IS WHAT I'M EXPERIENCING. I HAVE BEEN EXP THIS FOR ALMOST A YEAR NOW. I BELIEVE YOU READ THE ARTICLE ABOUT PHN FROM HSV AND HOW IT OCCURS MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY THAN IS BEING REPORTED. THERE ARE OTHERS ON THIS BOARD THAT BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS AFTER SEX WITH AN HSV INFECTED PERSON.

Great post Joe...I thought this board was for people to share information and share their experience with this virus...hopefully more people will chime in on this post and share their experiences...

Ironically Joe, you need to take heed to your own words:

" ..when all is said and done do not rely on the Internet go seek medical care! "

I also will tell you that you can't just post your own "personal" beliefs and statistics as to the validity and accuracy of tests. It will only give those who come here for accurate information, not bogus information - not what this forum is about.

If he is having breakouts then the leision culture for sure would come back positive. If that is not happening then a PCR of the lesision culture should be done.  Unlike the standard culture which requires active virus to be present the PCR will detect the DNA/RNA of the virus even if it is dead.

No test may singlely be 100% but in combination of others including the lesision culture.  There are studys out that do prove the accuracy of a given timeline of HerpesSelct and WB. Overall those test when used in conjuction have a pretty high rate of capturing different HSV antibodies.

I went on the Expert forums to see if I can find this 18 month guy testing.  To see if he has had any form of PCR test.  I am sure if this guy continues to test negative using lesision culutre including the use of a PCR test and antibody testing that chances are either this is a new strain of something which I am sure his doctors would want to get involved in checking for or he doesn't have herpes.

While this doesn't apply to me.  I have a feeling you are on a witch hunt here.  For which who knows what you will find.  But it doesn't hurt me.  I am no expert by any means when it comes to this so I won't say you have or don't have herpes (even if I did wouldn't do any good).  I will say that my thought is you don't have herpes.  You have something else that some time will be related to something entirly different.  Good Luck Joe

Actually not. Trying to see what other peopel have and are going through and as you see in some threads peopel have tested negative at four months later to be positive after 6. Yuo see where others have never tested positive via a blood test even with lesion. Then there are the people who have never had a symptom and are positive. Trying to get an understanding of what people are experiencing. I truly believe HSV1 is not as easily detected on these test. This is stated in print by Dr. Anna Wald top researcher at U of W. As have the experts on these forums. I figure if many can share their symptoms others can benefit.

If you really want to know I continue to get the burning and tingling in my lower extermities as well as other areas arems shoulder and some discomfort at the tip of my penis. This has been like this for 4 months. The person I was with was HSV1 & 2 positive it was an oral encounter she never knew until I asked her to get tested because I was feeling like S**t!

I personally think the test are very innaccurate 90 %, for HSV1 and HSV2 and this is when compared to the western Blot and remember even the WB is not 100 %! No test is.

Go on the herpes forum you will see there is a gentleman there who has tested 12 X over 18 months and continues to have OB and has yet to test posiitve BTW he has stated he has taken every test immaginable including the WB.

So what you are saying is that if the numbers of tests (like in your case) say you are negative and you have symptoms then you have to obviously have to have herpes?

what's up out there? I had unprotected sex with a friend I have known for a while and about 3 days later I've noticed 2 small red tiny bumps on my head.. I immeadiatly asked her If everything was cool with her health n of course she said she was absolutely clean. A few days later I noticed more of same bumps scattered around my shaft in the form of a half a ring. I dont feel no true pain on my penis, no itch, or no burning when I ****.. Also my body feels normal with no fever or body aches.. I'm just praying I don't have Herpes. The female feels completly normal took a std test a week ago n didn't receive a phone call with no bad news yet. I'm praying I just got my skin irritated and if not it can be treatable whateva it is. Also I workout 5 times a week and I sweat alot which could of affected the small bumps alil.. Can somebody tell me there opinion cause I'm freaking out!!!!!!
