transferred hsv1 orally-genitally

i have just become involved with someone, and we have started having sex, it is protected, however orally it was not. about a week after the last time we had sex, he had a fever and was ill, and then noticed some blisters on his penis. he went to the doctor who said they were not typical of herpese...however he had a uti...

i had an ulcer (or what i was sure was an ulcer) on my lip the last time i'd performed oral sex on him...i went to the doctors with the symptoms before, and they were identified as ulcers...ive been having them whenever i get really stressed since before i became sexually active.

however after hours of reserach found it is possible to transfer hsv 1 orally to genitals...this seems to be the situation...could it be anyting else? i tested neg to hsv2 and have never had any such symptoms

all help will be much appreciated

odds are your mouth ulcer was not hsv2 orally. Not many folks in the UK have hsv2 in general and hardly any have it orally.  hsv1 orally and genitally are far more common in the Uk than hsv2 is in either location.

you can both get type specific herpes igg blood tests from private clinics is my understanding but you have to pay out of pocket for them. at this point wait for his culture results to come back. Call after a week to see if they are back ( well he has to call of course ).

no, not yet. will take a week or two is what im told. and now i am pretty nervous...so what are the chances that i then have hsv2? without ever having had a symtpom? and passing it onto him? would that mean my ulcer was in fact a hsv2 sore? gawd!!! and now i have nothing to get checked because its cleared up!

gum clinics don't do type specific herpes igg blood tests from what I'm told.  odds are you just had a lesion culture done and you had no symptoms so it was a waste of time probably.

did he get his culture results back yet?

he has had them swabbed... i had an sti test at a gum clinic, swapped and blood tested. and was neg for everything. but i dont think i was tested for hsv 1 it isnt the usual test and i had no reason to suspect i had it...

what does this mean for him? hsv1: ive read it is the less severe type, with less outbreaks, but that i could catch it genitally off of him. he effectively has genital herpese now right?

whats i think is ive eithe r been misdiagnosed by a doctor, or have both canker sores and hsv1 and presto have gone and given it to him, like an idiot! i fell absolutly terible, although its not been confirmed its the only thing that adds up in my mind...too scared to even talk to him about it.

did your bf have his blisters on his penis swabbed for herpes? blisters and uti like symptoms are pretty indicative of genital herpes so it would've been well worth his getting tested properly :(   at this point your bf should consider a type specific herpes igg blood test now to see what his status is and then repeat it if needed in a few months.

canker sores are not herpes however sometimes what triggers a canker sore, also triggers oral herpes to shed. it's never a good idea to perform oral sex on a partner when you have canker sores due to the risk of infection for yourself since it's an open portal into your body for germs as well as the risk that hsv1 could also be shedding.  how were you tested for herpes in the past?
