Support Groups

It seems that Seattle does not have any support groups in the area? How do people cope when they find out they are positive for HSV 1 or 2? I  was diagnosed over 3 years ago through a blood test IGg.  I have pretty much isolated myself from going out, meeting anyone and I have no one to talk to at all.  I got blood tested after going online and requesting the STD test through quest diagnostics laboratory.  My results ccame back positive for both HSV 1 and 2.  I recently had my annual physical in December 2011 and decided to get a complete 8 panel STD test that included HSV 1 and 2, Hepatitis A, B and C, Syphillis, Gonnorhea, Clamydia, HIV.  Everything came back negative except of course the HSV.   I have been on Acyclovir for over three years and mainly take it during episodes or even if I feel tingling or prodrome.  What do you think I should do for support? I know I am not all alone but feel that way because outside of this situation, I have made no friends at all. Thank you.

This discussion is related to continued urethral irritation.

honestly it sounds like you need to seek out some professional counseling at this point. you've isolated yourself for far too long over this and it's time to start reclaiming your life!

I stay home because of fear of rejection when I tell someone that I care about that I have this condition. I already fear rejection because I have been told that because I am a christian or because I am african american. I live in Washington State. It is a beautiful state and there are lots of places and things to do if you are into the outdoor activities or winter activities. I know you have probably looked at my results and thought " Yep, he was telling the truth!"  I agree that I am isolated but I do not go out because I have not made friends in the time I have been here. It is hard as my priorties to not match with people's particular lifestyles (partying). I did my share of it in the past which is how I contracted this.

they used to have a pretty active support group - no idea when it stopped.

why have you stopped going out?  why stay home because of herpes?

I'll gladly take a look at your test results if you want a 2nd opinion on them too. Just post the numeric results - e.g. hsv1 igg 4.3 and hsv2 igg 4.4 or whatever they are.
