Test results.. help.

I was exposed to hsv 2 months ago and was not sure if I was the asymptomatic carrier or not. I was told to get igg type specific ab test and so I did. My first test the results came back negative <0.90. I took that test at 6 weeks post exposure and took the same test again at 13 weeks that came back negative <0.90 also. I've read on some sites that 16 weeks or even 6 months time frame is needed to confirm. Lab told me the results are 98% accurate after 6 weeks but they are not physicians. Do I need to take another test in a few weeks or at the 6 month mark or are the two negative test enough?

Your tests are conclusive. You do not need to test again. Antibodies will develop by 12 weeks, so you're good. :)

Thank you. The person I was with never experienced any symptoms until after on of our encounters. Tested positive weeks later. That is the reason for so much nervousness and what made me feel like I may have been the carrier. Is that normal? Does that mean she was positive and randomly showed symptoms afterwards. Confused by the whole ordeal.
I've never experienced any type of symptoms but have a fear of possibly transmitting to another person if the tests are wrong and I actually have hsv2.

How possible is it to have a false negative hsv2 IGG type specific ab test beyond the 12 week mark? Does it happen?

Thank you for the quick response and appreciate you taking the time! Hope this is helpful to others as well.
It is impossible for me to know what happened with your partner. They could have been positive before you and not known it, could have had another partner after you they didn't tell you about, or been positive before you, known it and didn't know how to tell you, so made this story up. Really, anything is positive. I don't know your partner so I am only wildly speculating.

The hsv2 IgG has a 92% accuracy. However, given that you've had no symptoms, and tested negative at 13 weeks, you can be confident you don't have it. If you had symptoms and were testing negative, I'd advise you to explore other testing, but that's not the case.

When you say exposure, what does that mean? Oral sex? Vaginal or anal sex? Rubbing? Something else?
Want to thank you for your help and advice. By exposure I mean vaginal sex. I have had hsv1 since a small child so I was only tested for hsv2 and that is what my partner tested positive for.

Was frustrated & freaked out bc I believed that I was the carrier and the cause of her "initial outbreak" as to what she was explaining to me. Then I tested twice at 6 and 13 weeks to confirm and both came back negative I wasn't sure what to think. Starting to talk to someone new now and just wanted to be sure that I wouldn't be putting that person at risk if that makes sense. The test was with QD so I assumed it to be pretty accurate.

Thanks again!

Also - Quest Diagnostics told me that their hsv2 igg type specific ab test was 98% accurate at 6 weeks and beyond which is why I waited for 6 weeks before my first test.
By hsv1 I mean oral. Occasional cold sore maybe once a year
I'm honestly not sure where they get the 98% from. I've seen that a bunch of places on QD labs, but I don't know where it comes from.

How long after you were with her did she let you know? I don't know what happened to her, but it doesn't sound like it could be from you.
Yes the 98% through me off as well bc I couldn't find it anywhere else but that's what the QD office continues to tell me over the phone.

She informed me maybe 4-5 days later. At that point I went to urgent care to be tested for everything. All came back negative but instead of a blood test for hsv they gave a urethra swab being that I had no symptoms. When that came back negative I decided that I needed a blood test to confirm so I waited for 6 weeks to take my first IGG.

At this current point it's now been 18 weeks since exposure.
Okay, really important here - did you give her oral sex? And did she test positive for hsv2 by blood test or swab, or did she say hsv2 because it's genital?
Never gave her oral at all. Not even once. She tested positive by both. Swab and blood for Hsv2, she was negative for hsv1.  I’ve been trying to make since of it for months but can’t understand
You just didn't get anything from her. She didn't get anything from you. She got it from someone else. Either she had it prior and just got symptoms, or she had another partner around the time she was with you and didn't tell you about him.

You may never know, but it doesn't impact you, so you're good.
