The chances I could have Herpes

Greetings,

Last week I had unprotected intercourse with a woman friend of mine and again yesterday (exactly one week apart nearly to the hour). I have no history of any STD nor does she as far as she has let on. I know her history is more active than mine and that both of us have had a dry spell for some time. Beforehand we were chatting about our days playing the field and she stated it was a miracle she never got anything, I said much the same. She is quite self conscious about her appearance and an old friend  so if she was infected knowingly I would have been told or at the least any advances on my part left unanswered. Both of us were in committed relationships for long periods and have had limited partners post relationship.

This morning roughly 12 hours since contact I noticed a burning sensation at the tip and base of my penis as well as lumps at the base of my penis. There are no red marks nor any mark that is not normally present. Much of the discomfort from this morning is gone though some remains. I noticed nothing from last weeks contact.

I had shaved the base of my penis prior to meeting and never noticed anything like this before though one tends to notice the smallest detail when in my state of mind at the moment. After both sessions I washed my hands and genitals with antibacterial hand soap and one time used rubbing alcohol which was rather unpleasant.  Granted this whole mess could have been totally avoided if common sense was used but the power of emotion is sometimes far greater.

My question is how likely are my chances of contracting herpes if no physical symptoms were visible from two encounters assuming she was unknowingly carrying the virus? Second question is how likely the burning is just razor burn and irritation from soap and alcohol that is being exacerbated by a currently overactive, paranoid imagination?

Thanks.

Hi, your risk from a couple of short affairs where she did not have any genital sores at the time would be close to zero. Only testing would confirm herpes but from what your describing its more of an irritation from shaving at the base and the soap at the tip. Herpes genital sores are very most often painful in the first outbreak.

Thanks mate. We are both going to get tested soon so we will know for sure. Until that happens my mind will wander and with my regular health issues this is just one more thing to worry about.
