Tongue Spots

I've recently noticed on the front of my tongue (tip) two dark red spots. Can herpes effect the tongue or can any other STD effect the tongue?

One of the spots looks a tad depressed as well. As if it's a mini little hole. Any ideas to what this is? Is it herpes?

Just that it is highly unlikely to have anything to do with herpes.

Thanks fleetwood.  It's weird appx. 2 weeks ago or so, the same thing occurred but it looked as if it was a patch of red and in the patch it looked smooth.  It went away for good after 2 weeks.

The two i currently have are still there, however they look a tad better than yesterday.

Does this extra information give you a better idea of what it could possibly be?  If it were to go away after a week or so, is it just a common thing to appear on the tongue?

Most unlikely this is STD related and is another cause altogether. Herpes is unlikely just to present itself in this way.

I'd seek a doctor's opinion on this one if it doesn't clear up in a few days.
