Transmission of hsv 1

My partner just got diagnosed with herpes simplex after discovering two small bumps on his genitals. What are the chances of transmission through protected sex?

You and your partner both need to find out who has what.  It's not automatic that you both have herpes.

The herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a free resource to learn more about herpes, testing, treatments and how to reduce the chances of transmitting it to a partner. I recommend both you and your partner give it a read while you are waiting for test results to come back.

Does he have HVS1 or 2 because HVS1 is of the mouth an HVS2 is of the genitals now i know you can get HVS1 on the genitals if someone who has it performs oral sex on you when they have a cold sore. The problem with the HVS virus an the HPV virus is that its very contagious an you can get it just from skin to skin contact. Using a condom will definately lower your chances of getting it an also if he's on Valtrex but you still run a risk of getting it because the condom doesn't cover everything. The virus could be lying on his uncovered areas as well so its still possible for you to get it either way but using a condom will lower your chances but its not 100%.
