I am assuming you had an IgG test? Levels on the test really don’t mean I heckuva lot. Anything above 3.5 is considered a firm positive. Where your index value Falls right now, is in the equivocal range. You have a score that should be confirmed with the test, preferably the HSV western blot. It’s the most accurate confirmatory test out there. You could have a false positive because of your score, though you do have a partner that is definitely positive. The thing about the index scores for Hsv testing is it tells you nothing about how much a virus in your body or how contagious you are or anything like that. They’re essentially a confidence number that the test picked up antibodies. The higher the number, the more confidence the test is to have found antibodies. Your boyfriends index score doesn’t tell him how long he has had the infection. Unfortunately, there’s really no way of knowing.
The equivocal range is 1.1 to 3.5. I can’t really gas the chances of yours being a false positive but my recommendation would be to wait 12 weeks from the last time you and your boyfriend had at sucks, having no other sexual contact, and test again. See what your score is at that time. If you still are below 3.5 and in the equivocal range, get a western blot test. If you are above 3.5, while false positives are possible even above 3.5, chances are it’s a true positive.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
