Why does the Western Blot take so long?

I read the website and it says the the test is performed in the lab three times a week, with results ready the next day (except for 20% of the cases that need additional testing). Why 2-3 weeks for results, then? Thanks!

Yes, I had strong and many symptoms, including burning, itchy lesions, a cold, a single blister, chills, and muscle twitches. I guess you can say it consumed my life and wallet. I took a total of 16 IGG/IGM tests and 8 swabs. All negative through 8.2 months.

Not much else I can do. I swore up and down I had it, as I never had such horrible symptoms genitally until after sleeping with a positive HSV1 female.

At the end of the day, it's the best I can do with what's available. Good luck my friend.

"Absorbtion" via Western Blot just signifies they had identified abnormalities within the sample (many times caused by an existing HSV1 strain) and need to run the tests more times to accurately conclude the other type is correctly diagnosed. It's basically done to avoid a misdiagnosis as they see HSV antibodies and want to ensure it's not causing a false positive on the other type.

My results via Western Blot at 5.5 months was negative for both types. Guess I was shocked to see that. I then followed that up with a 6 month and 8 month HerpeSelect test that was also negative. Done testing.

I took my Western Blot at 5 months after last sexual encounter.

I have had an established (with blood testing) life-long HSV1 oral infection.

My blood was in that 20% that took longer - it had to undergo a process called absorption.  I wish I knew what that meant.  The tech at UW told me that, samples that undergo absorption are 99.9% conclusive.

Mine was negative for HSV2.  It took nearly 2 full weeks for my results to reach me.

I'm doing confirmation testing... I've had three low positive Igg tests and one negative, while my partner of many years keeps testing negative...

Yes. I went through them. My blood was drawn on a Thursday and they received it on a Saturday. Did the test on a Monday I believe and got my results on Wednesday. That quick. Good luck.

How long after exposure did you test. Mine was 23 weeks.

Thank you! Did you go through Westover Heights? My sample was received last Thursday and I am just dying with anxiety.

It can take up to 2 weeks for results. However, I received mine 5 days from when blood was drawn. They processed my blood extremely quick and I was impressed. It took a couple days for them to receive it from my location and then a few more for processing. You could experience the same thing. I guess it depends on how many samples they have, when they receive the blood, etc.

The consensus is 2 weeks, I just got lucky regarding my personal results and experience with the WB.
