HSV-1 and lupus

Hi, I was recently in the last 2 weeks diagnosed positive for herpes type 1 by culture and negative serologically, which I assume means it was a recent infection.
The first week of the outbreak was hell.  I had all the classic symptoms, terrible sores, very painful urination, fevers, swollen glands, etc.  The second week was a better week with still having some sores, but not as painful and the urination was much better.  But by the end of week 2, more sores started appearing and my urination started to get very painful again.  I should say I am on Acyclovir 400 mgs twice/day, and was on an antibiotic the first week, plus pain pills.
I went back to doctor today because of the new outbreak and she upped the Acyclovir to 400 mgs every 4 hrs and put me on another antiobiotic for a bacterial infection.  She thought perhaps stress was to blame for the second back to back outbreak, plus I am starting my menstrual cycle.
I was told that HSV1 is a milder type, with not as severe outbreaks, and less frequent outbreaks.  Could have fooled me by having 2 outbreaks with a week of each other!  I also have been diagnosed with lupus, although don't have really any symptoms other than blood abnormalities and a few aches and pains and fatigue.  But I do know my immune system is not up where it should be because of the lupus.
I am wondering what I can do to boost my immune system, because I can't imagine going through these outbreaks continuously all the time.
Anyone with any thoughts or ideas, I would greatly appreciate any input.

So tired of suffering....

Thanks...Ladidah70

herpes will not cause the thick yellow discharge.  all the acyclovir in the world won't help with non-herpes problems.

Don't hesitate to go back and be seen again this week. still having this much pain after being treated this long isn't typical.

The first time I was seen and diagnosed, she put me on Flagyl because I had a bacterial vaginal infection.  Yesterday she started me on Cleocin because I told her I was still having lots of yellow thick discharge.  And as I said, she put my dose of Acyclovir up to 400 mgs 5x day and said I should stay on that for a while.
I did get sleep last night fortunately, so I feel a little better today.  But I am still hurting bad, and it's still excruciating when I urinate.  I just want this to go away! It's the most terrible thing I've ever been through.
Thank you for your input.

You should've been on acyclovir 400mg 3x/day for 10 days originally.   Even at this point you only need to do another round of 400mg 3x/day, not the 5x/day dose.

did they test your vaginal secretions for yeast and bacterial infections? what antibiotic did they put you on?

Hsv1 genitally is "milder" as in less recurrences and less shedding. it still presents exactly as hsv2 genitally does. Most folks who contract hsv1 genitally do initially have a humdinger of an ob just because they had no prior hsv infections to take the edge off of things like most folks who contract hsv2 do.

hang in there - this is still all brand new and it will get better I promise!
