I just got the call confirming a positive test a few hours ago I was tested just before I met my current boyfriend back in November of last year we got together in December I got heavily sick thinking it was just the flu shortly after then I got a bump on my wrist that turned into a few more but during this I had somehow gotten "pink eye" for about 2 months long it would go away and come back worse then I got a bump out side my tear duct those are still there pink eyes gone but the bump on my wrist is till here and made a few more of itself and then on my fingers now too both ring finger of each hand … my moms had schingles before but she got a shot and has been fine for a while … I have not cheated on him since being together but when a doctor thought about herpes and a allergic reaction I panicked got a blood test and today she called me saying it was positive... now I live in one state and my boyfriend on the other side of the country we seen each other just a few times in the few months of our relationship and he told me he has hep c.... hes in recovery but like I was tested negative before him right before and now I'm positive.... how do I bring this up to him what do I say how do I feel after this. I need some serious help and counciling or advice from anyone who has anything to lend please....I'm terrified to even have a phone call with him tonight I didn't tell him I was even getting tested so he has no clue I did

Can you get a copy of your test and what it says exactly?

There are lots of different possibilities here. You could be positive for type 1, or type 2, or both.

You could have a combination test that gives you results like, "HSV1 & 2 IgG positive", but all that tells you is that you could have type 1 (usually oral), type 2 (usually genital), or both. It doesn't tell you which one you have.

You could have a type specific IgG test that will give you a numeric result for each type. If you got below a 3.5 on the type 2, it could be a false positive.

If you were given an IgM test, it's a worthless test, but many doctors still use it.

A bump on your wrist is highly unlikely to be herpes, unless you're a wrestler (there's something called herpes gladitorium, but if you're not a wrestler, don't worry about that).

If you think you have herpes in your eye, this is worth a visit to an ophthalmologist, even during a lockdown. That would need immediate treatment. If your doctor thought you had ocular herpes and didn't immediately refer you, that's very concerning.

So what to tell your boyfriend? I don't know yet. How long have you been together? If you are actually positive, you could have had it before him. He could have had it before you and given it to you unknowingly.

Right now, if he's safe, I would just tell him that you got these tests done because you have a rash, and the results are wonky, and you're working through that. If he can get a type specific IgG herpes blood test (which may be hard as it's not an urgent health care reason right now), that might help figure this all out.

It's a lot to understand, I know, but if you can get your exact lab report, that will go a long way in helping figure this out.
