genital CANKER sores - herpes??

I'm having a lot of trouble trying to figure out what is going on. My husband and I are monogamous. We are tested every year. 2 days after we had sex, he got super sick with the flu or something. He got canker sores all in his mouth. About the same time, I noticed what I though was a tear or rip on my perineum. I figured it was an occupational hazard, no biggie. But this was the first it HURT. two days after the event. If I urinated on it HOLY HELL.... anyway after 2 more days it seemed to be getting worse, definetly more painful. I went to the doctor. HE wanted to give me some med's for vaginosis and a UTI just going off my pee. I practically had to insist he give me a pap. I pointed out a red dot that stung and had appeared. He said it didnt look like any STD no need for a bloodtest. I made him give me pain meds (T3's), again pretty much insisting. So the next day, it gets worse. Now I have 4 more dots. And the original red dot turned into what really looks just like a cold sore. and so did my cut on my perineum. I called him and he prescribed acyclovir by phone. So I've been on that for about a week. No improvement. I went to a free clinic and got a bloodtest today. Results back in a week.

My theory was that I caught HSV1 on the genitals (both my husband and I have nad coldsores since childhood). HOWEVER. I can't get clarification on if canker sores are infact herpes. Most things I'm reading say no. Can anyone please help me. I've come to terms with it probably being herpes. But if its not, excuse me but what the hell is it?? There are only forums online (that I could find). Nothing concrete. Everything I read about canker sores says they can ONLY occur in the mouth. But that is just not true. These painful excruciating things are DEFINETLY canker sores. Red exterior rim, and white/grayish inside the sore. I guess they are "oozing" but they are open sores so... p.s. the doctor i saw today ALSO didnt want to give me a pap. He insisted a bloodtest would suffice.

I would greatly appreciate any help/advice/feedback. If anyone has something similar or has any knowledge PLEASE share.

No negative comments please. I'm stuggling with this as it is. I don't need any negativity.

Hi also, if your having sores in the vaginal area the only way to know what they are is to have a swab and culture of the within 48 hours after they appear. This will confirm what they are. If you have a blood test and herpes comes up positive it will not tell you where you have it.
Did the doctor do a swab of the sores or a pap from your cervix?

Sores in the vaginal area could be anything, from a side affect of a yeast or bv to herpes.

Hi there.  I'm sorry that you're going through this.

My research shows that canker sores inside the mouth are NOT herpes.  However, some people get canker sores in their mouth when they are sick.  Canker sores themselves are NOT contagious.  Here's a link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canker_sore

Some photos I have seen of genital herpes, the sores can look SIMILAR to canker sores in the mouth.  It could be caused by HSV-1 or HSV-2, or maybe something else.  Your doctor needs to do a swab of one of the sores and send it for testing.

Also, a pap smear won't give you any information about herpes.  The only way to tell that is with a swab of one of the sores.  Hope you get some answers soon.
