i've had HSV-1 for 5 years and have never had any symptoms?

Hi, when I was 17 i tested positive for HSV-1, I was so confused how I tested positive because I had never had a cold sore on my mouth as far as I could remember. The doctor told me that a lot of people have it and also I could have easily gotten it as a child if a family member with a cold sore kissed me. Since I tested positive, it has not really been an issue for me because I've never had any outbreaks. I've been with my current boyfriend for 2 years now, and we've never had any issues. He's never shown any symptoms or anything and neither have I. So therefore I've never had a cold sore on my face and kissed him or performed oral sex. I've never had any cold sores ever. I performed oral sex the other night and he told me the next day he woke up and noticed a red spot on the shaft of his penis. I'm just wondering if this could be related to what I have. Could it really show up after 1 day, and it's just one single red spot..could that be herpes? I've been with him for 2 years, so I'm curious why this would happen now..after being sexually active with me for 2 years already. Is it really herpes or just something different?

If they were truly çold sores then, yes, your partner has HSV1. (Some people mistake staph etc. as cold sores, but if either of his parents get cold sores then the odds are pretty much 100% he has it given he gets sores).

You are ideally matched and pose no risk to each other genitals... enjoy!!

This is a very common scenario. Many people are infected from the age of 6 months to 3 years. About half of these people have no living memory of cold sores.

A critical factor here is whether your partner has HSV1 or not. If he does, then there is no risk genitally.

If he is HSV1 free then that also changes things a bit. If infected, he would get so much more than a little red dot on his penis around 4 days after infection. He'd have multiple sores most probably.

The transmission rates could be of the order of 1 in 5000 or 1 in 10000 per oral sex episode. Only around half couples will transmit in a lifetime of sexual activity.

My partner has had cold sores on his mouth before, so that means he has HSV1 right? Which means there is no risk genitally? He said it is just one red spot, just a single one. We hadn't seen each other in a week and then we saw each other and I performed oral sex and the next day he noticed the spot. Even if it was herpes, is that even possible to see an outbreak the next day? Ive been with him for 2 years and only him, and have performed oral sex frequently and never had any problems. Ive never had a cold sore ever. But if I'm positive for HSV1 and he's positive too since he's had cold sores, are we good?
