scared...

Hello. I am a 33 yr old female, I have never had a STD before and have had no symptoms of any infection.  I recently had a full STD test because I moved here from CA and switched gynecologist. Back in late April I had my annual gyno exam and tests, which were all negative.  Since April I have had unprotected sex (stupid I know), however I have been with the same guy for about 3 months and neither of us has shown any signs of infections.

I’m not sure what tests were done but I got a call from the nurse practitioner saying I was positive for HSV2 and Chlamydia.  I am going to see her tomorrow and would like your advice on what questions I should ask in regards to my HSV 2 test results?

I have been reading through posts regarding false positive and I can only pray that is the case with me.  What should I look for to see if the test results are true? Could any OTC vitamins or medicines affect this test? What about smoking weed? I know it’s a crazy question but I haven’t smoked a joint in 10 yrs until right before I took this test? Would that affect it? I have had annual std tests, cause I am a nervous nelly and I have always tested negative.

What about the Chlamydia? My boyfriend and I have been having regular unprotected sex for about 3 months now and neither one of us has showed symptoms of Chlamydia or HSV 2.  He did tell me he used to get cold sores when he was young.  Is that a big deal?

I gotta say I am soooo scared.  Any help can offer would be great.  I really appreciate having a forum like this to ask questions.

Your bf needs to go and get himself a full std screening done too.

Write down your actual hsv2 igg results so you can post them here. all I need is the actual numeric results - ie hsv1 igg 5.4 and hsv2 igg 3.4 or whatever they are. Once I see those results, I can better help you figure out if you need more testing or not. Depending on your bf's results, depends on what testing I can recommend for you for follow up if you need it for a low positive.

No, medications and pot don't affect the igg blood test result as far as we know.

Most folks who have std's, have no symptoms which is why testing is important along with barrier protection for sex.

Thank you for the reply.  I just got back from seeing the nurse practitioner and got a copy of my lab paperwork.  They did not test me for HSV1.  The test was run through LabCorp and I believe the test they used was the HSV Type 2 - Specific Ab, IgG.

Here are my results
HSV 2 IgG, Type Spec 1.51H index

Do I have HSV2? everything I have been reading says the cut off is really 3.5, when I questioned the nurse she said to me the test is positive so you are positive.  What does this mean??

I recommend that your bf get tested for herpes too. If he's negative, definitely you'll need additional confirmatory testing to confirm your status - preferably a herpes WB. Positive isn't positive and the reading you've evidently done is correct.  If your bf is + too, then repeat the blood test you had done again in a few months to see what it is then.
