I recently received my results for a herpes blood test I had taken a week ago. This test was taken 11 weeks after possible exposure. I understand that you are supposed to wait three months before getting a blood test but I was at home for the weekend and it was convenient to have the test performed there. The technician informed me that my IGg for both type 1 and 2 were negative (I am still waiting to hear the actual numerical test values from him) but that my IMg types 1/2 was positive. I understand that the IMg is an unreliable test, but nonetheless the positive IMg result makes me wonder if maybe I haven't acquired a new infection and that my body hasn't had time to produce the IGg antibodies yet? What I would like to know is: 1. Did I wait long enough to get an accurate IGg result (11 weeks)? 2. Should I consider further testing at this point? 3. How should I interpret the positive IGm result. I understand that most of the population is infected with Herpes simplex type 1. That being the case, and my IGg result for type 1 being negative, it makes me wonder if the IGm test doesn't hint at a new type 2 infection? Any help into this matter would be much appreciated. Needless to say I am a little stressed out by all of this. Thanks.
